Quentin: 24 Months / 2 Years

Happy Birthday to my Quentin Deckard! It’s fitting that we’re starting our new adventure in a new state on your birthday. Here’s to many more great years watching you grow!

Likes: Arthur, playing, running, jumping, “reading” books, singing and music, dogs, trains

Dislikes: Naps, being told “no”, not being able to just go

Sleeping: I think he is getting his last molars as sleeping has been spotty lately. And he’s been waking every morning around 6 or 6:30am.

Eating: Less picky than Arthur, but he still is fairly picky. We went and got Indian food last week and he loved the chutneys, rice, naan, and mango lassi. Not too excited about the curry we got.

Playing: Most days he loves playing with Arthur. Their current favorite game is pretending to be jaguars or cheetahs. He also really enjoys driving his cars and trains around the house.

Milestones: Starting to talk more and more. He seems to have skipped the bit between single words and complex sentences. He doesn’t talk that often, but when he does it’s a 5 or 6 word grammatically correct sentence. The other day he said “I want to ride the train” while at the zoo. I call that progress.

Out and About: We tried to hit up most of our favorite California places before we moved. His favorite is definitely the beach. He loves digging in the sand and running from the waves.

Quentin: 23 Months

Likes: Arthur (usually), cars trains and planes, climbing, being free and wandering, his stuffed panda, reading with mommy

Dislikes: Naps, vegetables, when it's time to go, Arthur playing with his toys

Sleeping: Random wake-ups for the past couple of weeks. We're transitioning to a twin size mattress on the floor and I think he is still adjusting.

Eating: Most of the things except for vegetables. He's a bit of a better eater than Arthur at the same age, but still being a picky toddler.

Playing: Lots of imaginary play with the play kitchen and all the cars and trucks. Plus, he's huge fan of playgrounds and the beach.

Milestones: Starting to actually talk. Only a few words here and there, but more more communication.

Out and About: Too many activities to list! We've been going going going every week.

Quentin: 21-22 Months

Likes: All his cars trains and planes! Wrestling with Arthur, ice cream, snacking in general, tickling mommy

Dislikes: Nap time, not eating every 15 minutes, loud noises

Sleeping: Random wake-ups some nights. I think he's having nightmares sometimes.

Eating: Loves his snacks. Both of my little kids seem to front load their eating. Breakfast and lunch are big business along with second breakfast, elevensies, and everything in between. Dinner is just not a big event.

Playing: He may not speak a lot of English, but he's got his animal and vehicles sounds down! Plus there's lot of playing chase and wrestling right now.

Milestones: Over the past two weeks, I've seen so much physical improvement. He climbs anything and everything and has started jumping.

Out and About: The past two months have been crazy busy with activities. We had a great week with J's parents, showing them to some of our favorite Bay Area attractions and places. We've also spent a ton of time at Seven Seas park.

Quentin: 20 Months

Likes: Scout (his LeapFrog dog), Magnatiles, applesauce, snuggles, all the books!

Dislikes: Naps, not being able to explore/climb everything, sitting to eat meals

Sleeping: I think naps are a thing of the past. In the last month, he has probably taken like 8 naps. Oh my. I just can't deal some times.

Eating: Still a much better eater than Arthur, but overall he's starting to get picky again.

Playing: He's really been into attempting to build things with the magnatiles and all the cars and trucks in the house. He's also been wanting to color everything in sight, much to the detriment to my planner.

Milestones: I think we are close to getting actual English words. His babble is starting to resemble sounds close to things. He has his own words for food, water, and other things. Apparently, I'm "Yaya."

Out and About: So many activities! We got in a ton of activities before the twins come in June.

Quentin: 19 Months

Likes: Music (so much music! He's even starting "singing" along to things and there's lots of dancing); Scout (his Leapfrog dog); cars and trucks (he's making cute little "vroom vroom" sounds now; dinosaurs

Dislikes: Naps; vegetables; when Arthur has a toy he wants; sitting still

So happy after destroying those dinosaurs

Sleeping: Still a good night sleeper and still a crap napper.

Living his best toddler life -- train table fun at a friend's house

Eating: Starting to get pickier about what he eats, but still eats a variety of food.

Playing: Quentin loves playing with all his Little People sets (so many vehicles!) and any type of cars and trains. He's also gotten into our knock-off Magnatiles. He can't construct much, but loves to help Arthur. He's also really big into reading books right now.

Milestones: The babbling is closer to actual words, but no official English yet. He does have a specific "word" for mom, water, and snack/food. Even without the actual English, he's very good at communicating what he wants.

Out and About: So many fun activities this past month! The Easter Bunny came and left eggs all of the house for the boys to find. We also went to the zoo, Chabot Space and Science Center, Hop n Play (indoor play place), Diddalidoo (indoor play place), lots of parks (Castro Valley, Hellyer, Seven Seas, Cordelia), Jelly Belly Factory, Bay Area Discovery Museum, and Safari Run (indoor play place). Phew! We were really out and about this past month!

Quentin: 17-18 Months

Quentin's official 18 month appointment isn't until the 30th of March.

Likes: All the toys! (especially cars, trucks, etc). Snuggles, his Scout, music of basically any kind, wrestling with Arthur, tickles

Dislikes: Napping, not having all the toys, being told "no," being confined to the stroller

Sleeping: I get irrationally happy when Quentin takes a nap. At this point, it happens 2-3 times a week. That's it. The rest of the week he's up and running from 7am to 8pm.

Eating: Starting to show more pickiness when it comes to food. He's enamored with throwing his food on the dining room floor. Ugh! He's still way more adventurous with food than Arthur, but I see it starting.

Playing: So much play! He loves to drive his cars all around the house (and sometimes on me). He loves to dance around to music. There's always lots of running and chasing in this house. And he's really gotten into climbing and slides at the park/indoor play place.

Milestones: Still no official English words although he is very good at communicating his needs and wants. Plus, he usually understands simple commands "go get your shoes," "put your plate on the island," "where's your bis (blanket)?"

Out and About: Still trying to do two activities outside of the house every week. In the past two months, we've been to the Oakland Zoo, Bay Area Discovery Museum (twice!), Ardenwood Farm (baby goats!), Chabot Space and Science, Totland Park, Seven Seas Park, and Mel's Play Place.

Quentin: 15-16 Months

Likes: Playing with Arthur, music of any kind, food, snuggles, playing with the remote and my phone, toy cars, "reading" books

Dislikes: Nap time, being tackled by his big brother, not getting his way, being told "no"

Sleeping: Still a decent sleeper. Typically he goes to bed around 8pm and gets up at about 7am. Sometimes, but not always, he takes an afternoon nap of somewhere between 1 and 3 hours. Not super consistent with the napping.

Eating: All the things right now! He started to slow down with eating a few weeks back, but now he seems to be eating everything again. He definitely has his favorite foods: French fries, bread, grapes, berries, yogurt, but will usually try anything I give him. At the moment he probably eats twice as much as Arthur any given day.

Playing: So much play in this house now! He loves playing cars and trains, wrestling with Arthur, and reading books. He also loves climbing and sliding at the park.

Milestones: Almost all of his teeth are in! He's currently getting all four canines at once (which is such a treat). He hasn't started talking yet, but there's definitely communication. And he learned how to clap and wave over Christmas.

Out and About: After getting back from visiting family for Christmas, we've settled into our old routine of one to two activities a week. We've hit a few parks for playdates, the zoo, Chabot Space Center (today), and lots of errands.

Quentin: 13-14 Months

Likes: Animals of every kind, cars, playing with Arthur, snuggles and tickles, playing catch and chase

Dislikes: Getting his hair washed, nap time, being kept out of the bathroom

Sleeping: Finally on a decent sleeping schedule. He goes to bed at around 8pm and wakes up at around 7am. Every once in a while he wakes before midnight, but goes back down easily. And he's been napping almost daily. Goes down around 1pm and wakes up anywhere from 2:30 to 5pm.

Eating: Starting to see some picky eating, but overall still a great eater. He especially loves pretzels and fruit right now.

Playing: So much playing in this house! Quentin loves getting into all the toys and hard playing with Arthur. His favorites right now are the musical instruments and cars.

Milestones: About a month ago, he started walking. Right on time if comparing him to Arthur. He also mastered the level door handles this week. Not great news for me, but yeah for his development. He also learned how to clap right around his birthday and has started pointing at things he wants.

Out and About: So many outings! I'm so glad that Quentin is a great traveler as we go anywhere and everywhere. His favorite places right now are the library and the park (specifically Seven Seas). He has also enjoyed going to CDM for the first time.

Quentin: 52 Weeks / 1 Year Old!

Happy Birthday Quentin Deckard! I can't believe you are already a year old! Such a big boy!

Likes: Cars, milk, snuggles, Arthur, playground, music

Dislikes: Naps, not being allowed to play with mommy's craft supplies, Arthur leaving him out of playtime

Sleeping: We had a bad night on Sunday (multiple wake-ups, a night poo, general fussiness), but he's usually very good with bedtime. Lately, his naps have been very unpredictable. One day it's 3 hours and one day it's one hour. And yesterday, he didn't nap at all...

Eating: Most of the things. I'm seeing more pickiness at meal times. He'll eat one or two foods off his tray and chuck the rest even though he ate the exact same thing the other day. I was hoping to keep the good eating a little while longer than this...

Playing: His absolute favorite toy right now are all the cars. He loves driving the cars throughout the house. Extra fun when Arthur plays cars with him. He also loves balls (rolling, fetching) and the baby laptops. And he's been "wrestling" with Arthur a lot lately.

Milestones:

Babies usually range from 27 3/4″ long and 18 lbs to 30 1/3″ long and 23 lbs. — We don't have our doctor appointment until Thursday, but I'm going to say that Quentin is at the upper end for height and I know he's more than 23 pounds.
Showing his independence — Most definitely!
Scribbling with crayons — Not yet
Drinking cow’s milk — Not cow's milk, but he has been drinking some almond milk instead of his morning bottle.
Fussy eating — Yep! It's definitely starting.

Out and About: Last week we ran a ton of errands, visited the library, and had a play date at our house. Not a big week for activities, but he did love playing with all the kiddos on Wednesday.

12 Months of Quentin Deckard!

Quentin: 51 Weeks

Likes: Being as loud as possible!

Dislikes: Not being able to play with the electronics. Waking up from naps. Being hot.

Sleeping: Great night time sleeper again. Thank goodness. And he's been napping most days for about 2 hours. Very exciting!

Eating: Still eating most things, although we are seeing him be more choosy. His favorite right now is mac n cheese.

Playing: We went to Mel's and it was the first time that Q actually explored and played. He loved it! Plus he's really gotten in wrestling with Arthur and playing with cars.

Milestones:

Possessive about toys, lovies, etc. — Yep. Don't mess with his bis (his blanket) or his water bottle.
Figuring out sharing — Sorta. He's been doing the funny thing of offering things to me and then taking it back. Although every once in awhile he does give me toys and food.
“No” — Not yet.
Handling more than one thing at a time — Yep. He's getting very adept at juggling things.
Separation anxiety at bedtime — Thankfully no...

Out and About: We hit the zoo and Mel's Play Place this past week. A few places for the boys to get the wiggles out.

Quentin: 49-50 Weeks

Likes: Playing! Food, snuggles, Arthur, the beach, climbing

Dislikes: Being told "no," not being able to mess with the electronics, being confined

Sleeping: We had a few bad nights these past couple of weeks. Q seems to be battling a bit of a cold and has a stuffy nose. We slept with me one night and it was not good. No one got any rest. Thankfully he has been taking naps most days. I usually get about an hour before he wakes up.

Eating: For the most part, he's still eating all the things. Unfortunately he has started throwing food off his tray when he's down. Very vexing...

Playing: Lots of rough playing with his brother. Their newest game involves tickling and wrestling. Q loves it! He's also really gotten into playing with balls and anything that makes noise.

Milestones:

Preference of right or left hand — Not that I have noticed yet.
Separation anxiety — Not really
Waving — Nope
Asserting his independence — Most definitely!
Unpredictable moods and wants -- Oh yes!
Using a handful of words -- No words yet, but lots more varied babble.
Communicating nonverbally — Starting to indicate wants nonverbally.

Out and About: In the last two weeks, we had quite a few adventures! We visited CDM to see the Thomas the Tank Engine exhibit. We ventured up to the Bay Area Discovery Museum to see the Daniel Tiger exhibit. We also had a park playdate at Seven Seas and a beach day in Half Moon Bay. We also had a pool day when the temperatures soared to over 100 degrees.

Quentin: 48 Weeks / 11 Months

11 months old! So close to one year. I can't believe it's been this long already. Seems like yesterday Quentin arrived in our lives. I better get the party planning going...

Likes: Climbing all the things, making loud noises, wrestling with Arthur, snuggles

Dislikes: Nap times, not being paid attention to, wrestling with Arthur (when he's done with it)

Sleeping: A few hiccups this past week. He woke up screaming a few times during the night. Maybe teething, maybe tied to his developmental leap, maybe being woken up by Arthur, maybe none of these things. Hopefully this is just a temporary thing. Naps have been very hit and miss also. One day he will take a 30 minute nap, the next day he will take a 2 1/2 hour nap. It's a bit frustrating for me.

Eating: Mostly all the things. He will try just about anything we put on his tray. But right now he's a huge fan of fruit. He also loves snacks like Cheerios and Mum-mums.

Playing: Oh so much playing!!! He loves playing cars and animals with Arthur. He loves climbing all the things. He's turning into a little mountain goat. He loves peek-a-boo and tickles. He has been getting into anything that makes noise. And he's really exploring his surroundings everywhere we go.

Milestones:

Understanding simple words and effects — I think I'm seeing more recognition from him. He's learned words like bottle, snack, Arthur, a few others.
Standing unassisted — He's done it a few times unassisted, but has yet to take a step independently. He walks along the furniture constantly.
Organizing objects (recognizing patterns) — I'm seeing a bit of this.
Drop in appetite — Yep. He's slowly dropping his daily intake.
Speaking a few words — Nope. No words yet.
Communicating wants and needs — We're getting there. He's starting to kind of gesture towards things and is very vocal with his babbling.

Out and About: Two weeks ago we visit Chabot with J. We also went to La Petite Playhouse (indoor play place) and Stafford Park with some friends. On the home side, we had some friends over a playdate and other friends over for a pool party. And then I got really sick a nasty cough. We didn't go anywhere for a few days so I could rest. I started feeling better on Friday, so Saturday we hit the library and then went to brunch at Black Bear Diner.

Quentin: 46 Weeks

Likes: All the food! Snuggles. Exploring independently. Playing with all of Arthur's toys. "Reading" books.

Dislikes: Nap time. Being hungry. Not being allowed to climb all the things.

Sleeping: Random wake ups at night time, but he usually goes right back to sleep after finding his paci again.

Eating: All the things! He really loves fruit right now, but will try just about anything. He tried a small piece of blackened salmon but definitely wasn't a huge fan of the spices.

Playing: Arthur is super excited that Q will now play with him. Their current game is tiger attack. Arthur "attacks" Q and Q dissolves into giggles. They also like to read together and play with cars.

Milestones:

Showing more opinions — Not really.
Starting to use utensils — Sorta. He has been playing with spoons but not really adapt at eating with it yet.
Engaging in more interactive games — Most definitely!!!!

Out and About: We had a few activities this past week. We had our usual errands: grocery, library, and Target. We also hit the park in San Ramon and had picnic lunch while running errands. On Tuesday, we had our monthly zoo visit and rode the gondolas up the hill for the first time. Eventually there will be a ton more animal exhibits up there, but right now there's only a cafe. On Thursday we had a fun friend playdate and picnic at Seven Seas down in Sunnyvale. And on Saturday we attended a birthday party for one of Arthur's friends. They had a bounce house! Q didn't partake in that, but he did play with the babies and smashed some cake.

Quentin: 44-45 weeks

Likes: Food, snuggles, playing with Arthur, anything that makes noise, being outside

Dislikes: Nap times (at least the going to sleep part), not being able to walk yet, loud noises

Sleeping: Q has been consistently napping! Most day I can get him to sleep about 1 1/2 hours at around 1pm or 2pm. This is so very exciting for me!

Eating: Still enjoying all the foods. He especially loves fruit and crackers, but will eat just about anything I put in front of him.

Playing: So much playing now! He really loves playing with Arthur. They usually play peek-a-boo, but they also started wrestling this week. He also likes playing with Arthur's vTech laptops and all the dinosaurs.

Milestones:

Walking while holding onto our hands — Almost. He walks along furniture, but hasn't quite got balance figured out yet.
Helping getting dressed — Nope
Climbing — Most definitely
Engaging in parallel play with age-mates — He hasn't been around any babies lately.
Starting to speak specific words/variations of words — Nope, although he's babbling more.
Venturing away from mom and dad and exploring — Yep. He loves to explore now.

Out and About: Lots more activities with the twins before they left. We went to Great America again (pics with Snoopy), and Seven Seas for a playdate. We also hosted a pool party and Q really enjoyed the water this time.

Quentin: 42-43 weeks / 10 months

Happy 10 months to my Quentin Deckard! Okay technically he'll be 10 months on Wednesday...

Likes: All the food! Arthur, his blanket, his ferris wheel, baths

Dislikes: Splash pads, not being able to walk yet, not being able to climb into the cabinets, dryer, dishwasher, etc

Sleeping: A couple of random wakeups at night, but usually just a quick one to replace his paci. The bigger news is consistent napping! He goes down for anywhere from 1 1/2 - 3 hours in the afternoon. It is glorious! I can get some things done or read or play with Arthur or take a shower. The possibilities are endless. I'm loving Q napping.

Eating: All the things and especially anything that momma is eating. I can't eat anything around him without giving him some of it. He begs for food! He's slowly decreasing his formula intake as his ingests more food.

Playing: Lots of independent play and exploration. He's all around the downstairs checking out every nook and cranny. He loves exploring the playroom and all of Arthur's toys. He also likes looking at books. Sometimes he attempts to look at mine and gets very frustrated. I assume because mine don't have pictures.

The only way he would let mom finish a craft

Milestones:

Harder transitions between activities — Yep. He's reluctant to stop doing something he enjoys.
Disliking being confined — Not really. We stopped baby wearing months ago, but he's still in the stroller often. Doesn't seem to bother him.
Crying with loud noises, vacuum, etc — Nope. He finds the vacuum fascinating.
Object permanence — Check!
Responding to single-step commands — Not really. I can see that he's starting to understand more, but he doesn't really listen to commands yet.
Grinding teeth — I've caught him doing this once. Thankfully it hasn't been often.

Out and About: Lots of activities. We've been to the Mission in Fremont (Mission San Jose), Sonic Drive-in, Seven Seas Playground, Stinson Beach, San Francisco, and the Aquarium of the Bay.

Quentin: 40-41 weeks

With the twins here, this house is crazy!

Likes: Climbing everything! Food, snuggles, toys that make noise, stuffed animals, watching the twins

Dislikes: Being cold, being hungry, diaper changes

So happy about pushing the stool back and forth

Sleeping: Q is finally napping! Holy cow! I'm so incredibly excited that he often takes an afternoon nap. This started about a month ago and it's added so much productivity to my day if we are home. Of course, we are out and about, naps don't always happen. Just excited about this nap thing!

Eating: All the things except ice cream! I think ice cream is too cold for him. Every time we have ice cream, he begs for some, takes a tiny bit and immediately regrets his decision. It's so cute!

Playing: These past two weeks, Quentin has figured out so many of his toys. He loves anything he can manipulate (change shapes, press buttons, make noises). His favorite is the little animal ferris wheel.

Saving that bit of banana and cheerio for later apparently...

Milestones:

Practice steps — Not yet. He just started pulling up and standing at the couch.
Better balance — Definitely. He can stand fairly steady now.
Imitating mom and dad — Not anything I noticed.
Pointing for things — Nope, not yet.
“Baby talk” — Not really
Showing a preference for specific toys. books, lovies, etc. — Definitely!
Sitting down from a standing position — Not really. He falls on his butt and doesn't get upset.
Waving — Nope
Experimenting with volume — Yep! He makes lots of noises with varying levels of volumes.
Biting phase — Nothing over here

Quentin: 39 Weeks / 9 Months

Crazy weekend and a crazy Monday meant I just didn't get around to this post. Instead, here's a pic from this morning. Happy 9 Months Quentin!

Quentin: 37-38 Weeks

Q woke up puking yesterday canceling all our plans to visit the Pirate Festival. He stopped puking after a few hours, but man it was rough. He ended up taking a 4 hour nap when he usual only takes an hour nap if I'm lucky. The rest of the afternoon he was cranky but his fever had broke.

Likes: Snuggles with his blanket, playing with Arthur, grabbing my ankles, opening the pantry/cabinets, fruit of any kind

Dislikes: Nap times, being told "no," not being able to eat all the little toys, being cold

Sleeping: He's doing so much better with naps lately. I can usually get him to sleep in his crib for about an hour, maybe an hour and a half, in the afternoon

The car seat box was so much fun to play in

Eating: All the things. His new favorite is chow mein. Love love loved it at the food trucks.

Playing: All the things. He especially loves his Vtech ferris wheel. He loves to spin it and make all the noises. And all the stuffed animals are super fun to snuggle.

Milestones:

Waving — Nope. Not yet.
Preference of right or left hand — Not that I have noticed
Stranger anxiety — Sort of. He doesn't seem to be upset if I'm still in the room.
Responding to simple commands — Nope
Grasping small objects with thumb and index finger — Check!
Becoming attached to a lovey — He has his rocket bees (blanket covered in rocket ships). Give him the choice of that one and his exact same material but different colored blanket and he picks the bis every time.
Pulling up at furniture or even standing on his own — He's very slowly starting to pull up, but only when he;s sitting on me.

Out and About: We've had a few activities since the twins arrived. The day of, the littles had a playdate at a friend's house. We also hit the library, the Oakland Zoo, Half Moon Bay Beach, and lots of errands. Plus Quentin rode the Bart for the first time on a trip into San Francisco to visit the Asian Art Museum.

Quentin: 36 Weeks

Likes: Arthur, Arthur, and Arthur

Dislikes: Napping, having getting food immediately when hungry

Sleeping: Q is officially bunking in with Arthur. Surprisingly it's going well so far. Q seems to chill and then fall asleep. Arthur is the one have problems getting to sleep.

Arthur wouldn't move so Q tried to go over

Eating: All the things. His current favorite is the yogurt melts. He would eat an entire bag in one sitting if I let him.

Playing: He's getting into all the toys! Really loving anything that makes noise and Arthur's hot wheel cars and dinos.

Milestones:

Cutting out the morning (or afternoon) nap — Haha!!! This kid hasn't taking two naps a day for months. It's a lucky day if he takes one nap.
Mastering stacking and filling — Nope not yet. He's been putting things in and out of buckets but no stacking.
Recognizing names, words, daily activities — He's starting to have word recognition.

Out and About: This past week we finally got a new car (a Honda Odyssey), so now I can go places with both boys any day. We ran a ton of errands, hit the park, went to a playdate, and celebrated a friend's birthday at a park. This week, the twins are arriving, so we will be out and about even more!

Quentin: 35 Weeks / 8 Months

Likes: Food, playing peek-a-boo, Arthur, snuggling, his blanket, all the toys (especially the dinosaurs)

Dislikes: Napping, not being picked up immediately

Sleeping: We had a weird night this week where Q went to bed, woke up screaming about 45 minutes later, and was off an on screaming and crying for the next almost 2 hours. Thought he was teething, but Tylenol did nothing. I ended up holding him (while we was intermittently flailing) for almost the entire time until he passed out from sheer exhaustion. Woke up the next morning perfectly cheerful. No idea what was going on! Naps are still crap although he took a 3 hour nap on Saturday afternoon. Of course I was busy doing crop day and didn't get to really enjoy the nap.

Eating: All the things, except for my salisbury steak meatballs apparently. He wasn't a fan...

Playing: Loves to play with all if Arthur's toys specifically the dinosaurs. He's also into his stuffed animals and Sophie. As I write this, he's trying to chew on my headband. Everything's a toy when you're 8 months old.

Milestones:

Lots of babbling — Check! Q's making all kinds of crazy sounds now.
Understanding “no” — I'm going to say yes. If I say "no" he usually pauses what he is doing. He usually starts again, but he does pause.
Discovery of his penis — Nope not yet
Personality development — Check! He's different and similar to Arthur in so many ways.
Becoming more mobile — Check! Not quite properly crawling, but that doesn't stop from getting places.

Out and About: We had another park day this week. Tagged it onto an epic errand day. Throughly amazed no one had a breakdown. We also visited the Chabot Space and Science Museum.
