Attempting to crawl...

Attempting to crawl...

Likes: All the food! Seriously, anything I put in front of him, he will eat. His blankets, his rabbit, anything his brother is playing with, being outside, walks in the stroller.

Lounging...

Dislikes: Not being paid attention to, naps, bedtime because that means no more playing

Sleeping: Ugh! Napping is so not a thing in this household. Somedays he will take a nap and I even got him to take a few in his crib. But most days he just goes and goes and goes until bedtime. By then he's a bit of a mess.

Eating: Such a great eater. I think he consumes at least twice what Arthur does in a day. He loves sweet potatoes and broccoli. Gets super excited about yogurt melts and puffs. I can't eat anything and not give him some. He begs for food when he sees it.

Playing: So much play! He loves to explore on his own (getting close to proper crawling), but he really enjoys when people play with him, especially Arthur. Q and Arthur have been "playing" dinosaurs all week. Q loves when Arthur does the roars and he loves chewing on the dinos.

    • Starting to understand cause and effect — I'm going to say yes. He's starting to show signs so I think we are on track.
    • Lifting arms up when wanting to be picked up — Check!
    • Trying to standing — Check! He loves to stand on the couch looking into the kitchen. He's starting to try and pull himself up to that standing position.

  • 33 Weeks
    • Understanding “no” — Um... I don't think so.
    • Furniture-assisted standing — Sorta check. He's not very steady yet.
    • Playing with more complicated items — Check! He loves manipulating toys and other objects. He's even starting to understanding how to play with some of the more complicated toys.
    • First words —Nope
Outside time

  • 34 Weeks
    • Throwing things — Um... not really.
    • Standing at furniture — Nothing except for the couch
    • Fear of strangers — It's more of a contempt for strangers than a fear.

Out and About: Oh the places we go! It helps to have a big brother to follow around...

  • Mel's Play Place -- A few indoor play mornings
  • Diddalidoo -- A different indoor play place for Arthur's friend's birthday
  • New Parks - A few different new-to-us parks visited
  • Oakland Zoo -- Q loved the otters
  • Children's Fairyland -- It's such a weird time capsule. Not sure if Q liked it or was just weirded out.
  • Lots of walks in the neighborhood

Quentin: 31 Weeks

Someone officially turned 7 months old this past week!

Likes: His blankie, being outside, all of big brother's dinosaurs, chewing on fingers

Dislikes: Nap time, not being paid attention to...

Two brothers actually playing together

Two brothers actually playing together

Sleeping: 9/10 he sleeps through the night. I'll take it!

Eating: All the things! He has really been enjoying hummus and oranges this past week.

Playing: So much playing with brother this past week. Q loves to be tickled by A.  He also loves playing peek-a-boo.

Milestones:

  • Testing limits — Nothing really yet...
  • Developing the pincer grasp — Definitely refining this skill!
  • Sitting without support — Yep! He's been sitting without support for about 3 weeks now. So big! Now he's starting to work on crawling forward.
  • Clapping or waving — Nope. Still doesn't do either of these things.
  • Expressing unhappiness when toys are taken away — Nothing major yet, but I know it's coming!

Out and About: On Monday, we had a park playdate for big brother. Thankfully Q got some time playing on the picnic blanket with one of his baby friends. We also had lunch with a friend from out of town. On Thursday, we traveled to North Bay to visit the Bay Area Discovery Museum. Q loved watching all the kids play with the trains. He even got some time to get down and play. He also enjoyed the rainforest exhibit.

He really liked the pattern on my pants...

Sleeping: Doing decently with night time sleeping. He usually sleeps 8pm to 6am with maybe one wake up. Nap times are still a joke. If we're out and doing things, he usually naps. At home, naps are practically nonexistent. Some days it would be really helpful if he napped even once.

IMG_5819.jpg

Eating: All the things! He has loved most food that we give him. His current favorites are roasted sweet potato, strawberries, baby mum-mums, and hard boiled eggs. Since we do baby led weaning, he pretty much eats whatever we are eating for dinner. I don't give him super spicy food, but he does get a bit of flavor spice on things. On Saturday we had dinner at a friends house and discovered that Quentin loves mango chutney!

Playing: So much play in this house! He is very interactive with his toys now. He also loves "playing" with Arthur.

IMG_5961.jpg

Milestones:

  • Playing peek-a-boo — Somewhat. He laughs when I do peek-a-boo, but don't think he really understands quite yet.
  • Smiling or waving at people in public — Smiling yes, waving no.
  • Frustration when not able to get somewhere on his own — Oh yes! So much of this! He wants to get everywhere, but hasn't quite figured out the crawling thing yet.
  • Preference of one parent — Yep. Q always wants to be with momma.
  • Faster and more coordinated crawling — Not quite yet. He can roll and scoot around, but actually crawling hasn't happened yet.
  • Preference for certain foods — He loves sweet potatoes, hardboiled eggs, and strawberries. He likes other foods, but if any of those are on his plate, he gobbles them up first.
  • Fascinated by his reflection — Yep! Loves playing with his mirror.
  • Developing a sense of empathy — Hmmm... this one is really hard to judge.
IMG_5966.jpg
IMG_5989.jpg

Out and About: In the past two weeks we've been to a ton of events and places.

  • Happy Hollow -- Q loved the anteater and watching kiddos on the rides. He also got to get out of the stroller and ride Danny the Dragon and play with his friend E.
  • MVPA Spring Social -- Lots of playing with the other babies and eating tons of food!
  • Book club -- He usually goes with me to La Tartine for book club. This time he ate tons of eggs, hash browns, and toast and tried to steal Z's socks.
  • Playdate at our house -- We hosted a playdate that ended up being only one other mom and her kiddos, but it was still fun. Q had a more exposure to other children.
  • Lots of errands -- The usual...
  • Dinner at a friend's house -- The hosts don't have kids, but the other family that came have a 6 yo, a 4 yo, and a 10 month old. Q is as big as the 10 month old! They had fun watching the big kiddos play and eating Indian food!

Playing: Quentin loves playing with all his toys right now. His favorites are the links (likes to fling them back and forth), Sophie for chewing on, the mirror, his Baby Faces book, and the stuffed snow leopard. He also discovered that Arthur's cars and dinosaurs are perfect for chewing on. Have to have another discussion with Arthur about keeping those away from Q.

Milestones:

  • Crawling —Not quite yet. Lots of scooting in circles and a bit backwards.
  • Squirming instead of wanting to be held —Nope. He loves being held by me at least.
  • Answering to his name —Um... maybe? Sometimes I think he answers to his name and sometimes he seems to ignore me.
  • Sitting unassisted for longer periods -- He's almost sitting independently.
  • Feeding himself finger foods -- Getting so good at picking things up with the pincer grip.
  • Getting teeth -- Two bottom teeth so far. Working on a top tooth.
  • Working on fine motor skills -- Definitely increasing his skills right now.
  • Separation anxiety -- Nothing major yet.

Out and About: Other than the doctor appointment, we ventured out for a ton of regular errands and some fun places.

  • Playdate at Ms. Priscilla's house with a visit to her fun neighborhood park
  •  Happy Hollow for the first time in almost a year. The lower zoo is still closed due to flood damage, but we had fun at the upper zoo and the rides.
  • California Academy of Sciences with J. Quentin loved the aquarium so much. I think his favorite were the jellyfish.
  • Mel's Play Place Easter Egg Hunt. Q didn't participate obviously, but he had fun watching all the big kids play.

Doctor Visit Stats: Q got 3 shots today at his appointment. He cried for about 3 minutes and then was good. Glad that he is calmed down with snuggles.

  • Height: 28 1/4" (97th percentile) -- We only have 3/4" left until he grows out of his infant carseat. Guess I better decide which convertible carseat to buy...
  • Weight: 19 lb 3 oz (80th percentile)

Milestones: I looked up Arthur's growth updates to figure out some of these...

  • Pays attention to small objects — Check!
  • Transfers toys from one hand to the other — Check!
  • Babbling — Not that much. He laughs a lot, but not quite as much babbling.
  • Sitting by himself or with minimal support — Check!
  • Rocking back and forth on all fours — Nope. He scoots around backwards but hasn't gotten up to all fours yet.
  • Developing separation anxiety — Nope. He's pretty good being left alone. Some days he starts to vocalize after a minute or so if can't see me, but not really separation anxiety.

Out and About: On Monday we went to Mel's for playtime. It was raining outside so the place was packed. It was the first time that Q was actually interested in playing with anything. We sat in the baby area playing while Arthur played in the bounce house. On Thursday we visited Happy Hollow. Half of the place was closed due to flood damage from February's San Jose flood, but we still had fun looking at the goats, sheep, lemurs, chickens, and anteater and riding the rides. Q enjoyed the carousel and watching all the little kids run around and play. While there, Arthur had to have a stuffed Jaguar so we bought Q a matching Snow Leopard. He's so in love with that toy!

Quentin: 25 Weeks

No big update for today. Still catching up on things after being sick all last week. But I do have some good pictures and a little update. We've continued on the baby led weaning journey. In the past week Q has had puffs, pasta, sweet potatoes, grapes, bananas, rice husks, and broccoli. Broccoli was his favorite. He's definitely my child.

Dislikes: Loud noises, being left alone (or at least not being able to see mom), water splashed in his face (Arthur got a little over zealous in the tub), rain

Rare daytime nap. He looks so sweet here.

Rare daytime nap. He looks so sweet here.

Sleeping: Hit or miss. He was sleeping from 8pm to 7am straight, but lately he's been waking up once or twice a night. Usually he just wants his paci, but sometimes he wants a bottle. Daytime naps are really miss most days. Apparently I just have a kid that doesn't nap! Occasionally he takes a decent 1:00 - 1:30 nap, but that's so so rare. Usually his nap is like 15-20 minutes two times a day.

That expression though

That expression though

Eating: Last night I introduced Q to his first food: avocado! I was planning on started sometime this week, but last night's dinner involved an avocado and we didn't use all of it. Perfect. We stuck him in the booster chair and I put some on his tray. He didn't get the feeding himself part, so I would let him eat the avocado bits off my finger. He was actually swallowing most of it after squishing it around his mouth. He kept coming back for more, so I kept giving it. He ended up eating about a 1/3 of an avocado. Then he tried to eat my popcorn, but we wisely moved the bowl. Tuesday we're having sweet potatoes, so we'll try those.

Playing: Q's really taken a shine to his toys lately. He loves messing with his taggie blankets and Sophie. But he's also a fan of the wire ball and links. We've also been utilizing the jumper for a few minutes here and there. Mostly when I need to cook dinner and he's very insistent on me holding him. So doesn't work! At least in the jumper he can play and see me at the same time.

Charm

Milestones: Almost sitting up by himself. He can tripod for a decent amount of time before flopping over. He also discovered his toes a while back. His new trick is trying to take off his socks and chew on his toes. He gets so excited when he actually gets them in his mouth. Q's also been "talking" a lot more. He's extremely loud some days.

Out and About: Arthur's been sick, so we haven't been out and about as much these past two weeks. We did hit up CuriOdyssey (small zoo and science center) and the nearby playground. Yesterday the boys joined me at book club and on a Target run. And... that's about it.

But then, yum!

  • Janine's Baby Shower -- We had a lovely baby sprinkle at the park on Saturday morning.
  • Stamp Club -- After the sprinkle, we headed over to Campbell for stamp club. Q did so well hanging out.
  • Valentine's Exchange -- Our parent group had our annual Valentine's Exchange party on Thursday. It was a crazy party full of running toddlers, but we all had fun. Afterward, we had lunch with some friends while mom made rally signs for the Planned Parenthood rally on Saturday.

Sleeping: We settled into a decent routine of bedtime at 9:30ish. Sleeps until at least 1:30am, but usually more like 3:30am. Wakes up to eat and goes back down for 3-5 hours. Daytime naps are sometimes nonexistent, but here's to hoping we settle in to something soon.

Eating: Consistent with 6 ounce bottles lately

Watching big brother

Watching big brother

Playing: Q has recently started playing with his toys. Mostly he grabs things and tries to eat them, but it's a start. He's also gotten interested in "reading" his little books, especially the one pictured above. The one page is crinkly and he can chew on the book itself. I am hoping to clean the jumper this week and introduce him to the big toys. (It's in the garage and a bit dusty from being stored out there for almost two years.)

Doctor Visit Stats: Q's four month doctor's appointment isn't until Jan. 30th, but we made a visit on Thursday. Everyone in the house has had a nasty cold and I was concerned that the baby was developing bronchitis or RSV or something of the like. He was very wheezy at night. I took him in, doctor checked him out, and he was diagnosed with a mild case of the croup. Nothing super major and nothing that needs antibiotics. So far, he's slowly getting better... On a side note, they weighed him and Q is now 16 pounds!

Baby in motion!

Milestones: Rolling from back to tummy. He can probably roll the other way, but hates tummy time with a fiery passion. He's also started moving around in a circle while on the floor. He's never in the same place as I put him.

Schedule: Eh. Other than bedtime, we don't really have one.

I put him on the mat facing the other way

Out and About: The rain has discouraged our outings. It's just too crazy to attempt to get a toddler and and baby in and out of our tiny 2 door mini cooper in the rain. We did get out to the grocery store earlier this week and a visit to the indoor play place on Thursday. Q went with mom to book club in Redwood City on Sunday. He got to visit with Miss Janine and Miss Amanda and baby Esha. We have an actual outing planned next Thursday to the Bay Area Discovery Museum. Here's hoping it doesn't rain.

I was looking at a sleep chart the other day and according to the chart, Q is 9-12 months old. He's awake for 3-4 hours between naps and only naps for 45-60 minutes at a time. Eating: We're up to 6 ounce bottles consistently. And he loves to watch me eat. Somehow I don't think we're going to make it to 6 months before his first taste of real food.

Playing: Slowly discovering toys. He really likes the playmat now, but not tummy time. He tries to grab toys and is sometimes successful! Currently his favorite "toy" is his little blankies. Lots of chewing on them.

Milestones: Rolling over a few times. Just like Arthur, Q's starting back to tummy instead of the usual tummy to back. He's also talking a lot more and focusing on objects and people for longer amounts of time.

Schedule: We're starting to settle into some sort of schedule. He's usually up for the day around 6 or 7am. About three hours later, he takes a nap. Then there's a little nap after lunch and another around dinner time. Q goes down in his crib around 9:30pm. We tried putting him down the same time as Arthur (8pm) but found that Q needed a bit of downtime before going to bed.

Out and About: Q is officially a traveler! Unfortunately he's also earned his poo on an airplane merit badge. Not fun for mommy... Other than plane travel, we've his the grocery store and Target since being home. He also accompanied mommy to her stamp class. And charmed the pants off of all the ladies.

Quentin: 12 Weeks

We're in Fort Wayne visiting family for the Christmas holiday. Quentin (and Arthur) did great traveling on two different airplanes and through O'Hare. I was very happy with how the day went. Beyond traveling, we've visited a few family members and the library. The bitter cold has restricted spending a lot of time outside, but we've still had some fun so far.

Quentin: 11 Weeks

Likes: Long talks with momma; hanging with big brother; snuggles; walks outside

Dislikes: Not being fed right this instant!

Sleeping: More 5-6 hour stretches as night. The past few he's gone down around 10pm and slept until 3:30 or 4am. This momma is super excited to get a bit of actual sleep.

Eating: Less of a snacker this week. He's actually been drinking an entire 6 ounce bottle in one sitting.

Playing: More tummy time. More chewing on blankets. More watching and talking to people.

Milestones: No big changes this week.

Schedule: Other than the increased night sleep, things have stayed pretty much the same.

Out and About: A few activities this week. Monday we headed to the zoo for our last visit of 2016. It was super chilly and threatening to rain (it didn't) so we basically had the zoo to ourselves. All the animals were super active and we got to see some that we don't usually see like the lions. Very nice visit with a couple of friends. Wednesday we hit up the indoor play place so Arthur could get all the wiggles out. Arthur got to run, Q slept mostly, and I got a bit of reading done. Thursday was the big cookie exchange party with our parent group. I hosted with another mom. It was utter chaos (~20 kids in one room can do that), but we had fun and took home some great cookies. Very yummy! A friend and her son (Arthur's friend) came to craft on Saturday. It rained all day, so great day for crafting. After they left we snuggled up and stayed in.

Quentin: 10 Weeks

Likes: Snuggles; chewing on his blankets; any attention from Arthur; being outside

Dislikes: Gas; loud noises

Sleeping: Last night, Quentin slept 6 hours straight for the first time. It was glorious! Here's hoping we get more longer stretches at night from now on.

Eating: Q's turned into a snacker during the day. He eats 1-2 ounces and then hangs out for awhile. About 30 minutes later, he'll drink another 1-2 ounces. A bit annoying, but I'd rather he do this during the day than at night.

Playing: I've been putting Q onto his playmat more often. He loves staring at the hanging animals. He's even grabbed them a few times. Now if I could get him to enjoy tummy time...

Milestones: Smiling, talking, grabbing objects...

Schedule: Not really any schedule during the day except for us trying to put him in his crib by 10pm.

Out and About: Wednesday we traveled over to Niles for the Train of Lights. Q loved all the lights. Thursday was went on an epic road trip up to Martinez to pick up his birth certificate. While out, we made sure to take care of the rest of our errands including stops at Michael's and Target. Plus, we popped into Chick-Fil-A for lunch. Arthur played and Q watched the kids for awhile before falling asleep. We ended the week with our big Secret Snowflake party. Q slept through almost the entire thing.

Quentin: 2 Months/8-9 Weeks

Guess who's already 2 months already? That's right, this stinky guy!

Likes: Arthur, snuggles, his play mat, lights, being outside, baths

Dislikes: Diaper changes, not being held, daddy's coughs and sneezes

Sleeping: Oh man! Q's still not a great sleeper. He's done a few 5 hour stretches at night, but not consistently. Some nights, he's still up every 2 1/2 - 3 hours. We haven't figured out a pattern to his crazy...

Eating: Up to 6 ounce bottles although he seems to like to snack during the day instead of eating it all at once

Playing: We've been doing more play mat and tummy time. He tolerates tummy time for about 5 minutes before dissolving into crying. The play mat is interesting for a little while. Arthur keeps trying to give him the stuffed Tigger and rubber ducks. A doesn't quite understand why the baby won't take the toys. We're working on it... But Q is much more interested in the world around him.

Doctor Visit Stats: Two month visit this morning!

  • Length: 24 3/4"
  • Weight: 13lbs 7 oz

Milestones: Two weeks ago, Q started talking and smiling! So excited to start to see more personality and growth. He loves talking to momma and Arthur. Lots of cooing in the morning during breakfast. He also grew out of most of his 0-3 and 3 month clothing. We're into 3-6 or 6 month onsies and 3-6 pants. The dog sleeper below is officially too small. He doesn't fill it out, but it's definitely too short. Q's too tall!

Schedule: Starting to see more of a pattern during the day. He's up and happy from about 6 or 6:30 until 9 or so. Then he naps until lunch time or so. The afternoon is a bit different each day, but he usually takes a big nap before dinner and wakes right when I sit down to eat. Baby radar!!! We've been taking him upstairs to sleep in his crib sometime around 9 or 10pm.

Out and About: In the past two weeks, we've not been many places. The entire family came down with a nasty cold that lasted for over a week. In fact, J and Arthur are still suffering from a bit of a cough. Q and I seem to have gotten better pretty quickly. Beyond that, we've run a few errands, but mostly stuck close to home. We did venture to the mall to meet a friend for lunch last Monday. Arthur had fun playing in the indoor playground and Q enjoyed looking at all the things.

Quentin: 7 Weeks

Likes: Being in the baby carrier, "talking" to mommy, being outside

Dislikes: Gas, being cold, diaper changes

Sleeping: Still very spotty. He hasn't slept more than 3 hours at any time. I think he's getting easier to go back down to sleep after feedings in the middle of the night. But that could just be me being optimistic.

Eating: Mister pIggy piggy has been eating a ton this week. Q's probably on the verge of a growth spurt. Otherwise I have no idea where he's putting all the food.

Playing: He's starting to look at more things and being interested in the world around him. Arthur can't wait until Q actually plays with him. A few more months...

Milestones: Q's started "talking" to people. I love the coos and gurgles he's making this week. And he's on the verge of rolling over with intent. Maybe next week.

Schedule: Still no real schedule. However, he's been awake more often during the day with a "morning nap" about 8am.

Out and About: This week's plan went up in flames. Q had horrible sleep Sunday to Monday and I developed a horrible migraine that lasted throughout the day. So no Oakland Zoo for us on Monday. We spent most of the week at home. Friday we ventured out to the Chabot Space and Science Center. We have a membership and it's only about 20 minutes from home. Perfect for a visit with friends. Saturday Q accompanied me at the Holiday Bazaar. I was helping out a mom friend selling our homemade greeting cards. Sunday both boys went with me to host Coffee and Cards at Panera and to a visit at Target.
