Fancy Folds Class - Part 2

In May I held a class featuring four cards with fancy folds. I tend to keep the same style of cards, but decided this was a great chance to learn some new techniques.

Card #1

I found a great little tutorial for a steps card. I love the finished look of these and knew I wanted to do my own. Take a piece of cardstock measuring 4 1/4" x 11" and score as 1 1/4", 2 1/2", 4 1/4", 6", 8 1/4". From there cut a separate piece of same colored cardstock to 4 1/4" by 5 1/8". Fold the card into steps and attach the other piece of cardstock to stand up the card. From there, I cut the DSP to 1" by 4", 1 1/2" by 4", and 4 3/4" by 4". I layered a smaller piece of white paper to put add a fun sentiment. To finish the card, I added some die cut flowers in coordinating inks.

Card #2

Love this tri-fold class! Start with a 8" by 12" piece of cardstock. Line up the piece at a diagonal and cut. It doesn't need to be precise. You can make the angle as steep as you want. Score at 4", flip around, and score at 4". Fold the card and you're ready to decorate.

To decorate, I created my own piece of DSP with the circle stamp from Work of Art. Once that was done, I cut the pieces to add to the cardstock. Finally I decorated and cut out some balloons. Perfect!

Another Thank You Set

I have too many scraps of pattern paper. Solution... make a set of fun thank you cards for my friend's wedding. She has gotten so many great gifts already, she needs a ton of thank you cards to send out. I took a giant pile of pattern paper and started punching out hexagons. After amassing a huge pile, I started do random patterns on pieces of white paper.

Some the cards ended up being almost monochromatic. Some were varied colors.

I ended up loving all the different variations of cards and I used a ton of scrap paper pieces. Plus, my friend now has a ton of thank you cards to use.

Motley Monsters Cards

I made these two cards to teach at my Halloween and Thanksgiving card class. I tried to make them simple yet fun.

The first card was all about featuring the Motley Monsters DSP. But I didn't want the busy pattern to completely overwhelm the card. Enter the small polka dot page and larger sentiment oval. As an alternative, I made another card with black CS and white craft ink for the sentiment. I may just like the black better...

Make and Take and Stamp Club HW

I have two simple cards to share with you today. The first card was my make and take card from my May open house. I wanted allow everyone to make a simple card for free, but not make it too complicated. Enter the joys of monochromatic cards. I found this example on Pinterest. The original can be found at My Creative Corner.

And decided to recreate it using retiring colors and papers. I have to use them somehow! Each guest had the choice of making their card in Gumball Green, Summer Starfruit, Midnight Muse, Primrose Petals, or Raspberry Ripple.

My interpretation uses a ton of current in colors and some retired DSP. I love the cool colors and pattern play. I played with the dimensions a bit (i think they are a bit off), but kept the design just like the sketch.

Fall Cards in May: Sunburst Halloween

I wanted something a little different for the Halloween set. I love the Frightful Sight DSP (sadly retired) and wanted to use as many of the patterns as possible. Enter the sample and tutorial from Welcome to Stampin' Sue:

My Interpretation: Taking Sue's idea, cut a ton of DSP and went to work creating my own sunburst image.

Basic Tutorial:

Cut a piece of scrap cardstock to 3 1/2" x 3 3/4"
Cut strips of DSP to 1 1/2"x 3 3/4"
Cut those strip diagonally
Mark your scrap cardstock piece at the middle
Use the mark as a center for the pointed ends of the DSP
Adhere and trim off excess
Use excess to fill in the end spots of the sunburst
Cover the straggly ends with a ribbon, washi tape, or piece of cardstock (I chose cardstock)
