Simple In Colors

A simple card today using some of our current in colors.

I found this design on Pinterest (of course!), and knew that i had to CASE it.  I pulled out my 2013-2015 In Colors and went to town using the fun patterns. The resulting card is just simple and gorgeous. I may just have to use this idea for a simple card class.

Feathered Flower Take 2

For my August swap card, I decided to modify the Fall Feather Flower from yesterday.

I choose the 2013-2015 In Colors as my swap recipient loves those colors.  I cut down on the number of petals (feathers) to decrease the bulk of the card.  This worked much better.  I added some sparkly feathers throughout to give the flower a bit more visual interest.  The sentiment stayed the same, but was inked in a coordinating color.  After I finished, I thought there was just too much white space.  Adding a punched up silver sparkly butterfly completed the card.  I hope she likes it!

Sparkly Four Feathers

I found this beautiful card that was featured at Convention.  I knew I had to make my own version of it!

Card Inspiration from SU 2014 Convention featured on Stamp Your Art Out

I changed up the placement of the sentiment and feathers a bit.  I wanted to use the sentiment from Kinda Eclectic, but it was too tall to put on top of the feathers.  It would have completely covered most of them!  Instead I made it a banner and placed it at the bottom of the card.  I also changed the colors, but kept the idea of a sparkly feather for the center.  The feathers and the sentiment banner are all popped up on dimensionals to give visual interest.

May Swap Card

My SU holds a monthly card swap.  We get the name of one of our fellow members and make a card for them.  When everyone receives their cards, we post to our FB group and show off the pretties!  May was my first month participating in the swap and of course I got our group leader.  I decided to attempt a card using the new stamp set: Work of Art.  I actually recieved the set free at the catalog premiere at the end of April but haven't done much with it until this card.  I think i was extremely scared of how abstract the set is.  Lots of undefined ink patches.  After a few duds, I finally settled on this design.  The colors are much more vibrant in person. Overall, I liked my attempt, but obviously need to use this set more.  And possibly scour Pinterest for more ideas.

Fun 'n Crafty Blog Hop June 2014

Welcome to the Fun n' Crafty Blog Hop for June! This is our first of our monthly blog hops and I hope you enjoy all the inspiration. This month we will be showcasing project ideas from the NEW Stampin' Up annual catalog. So make sure to check out the list of stops on the hop at the bottom of this post to see them all!

As I flipped through the catalog, I had the hardest time deciding what to showcase...  After the longest deliberation I ended making two cards.  I'm very proud of myself for narrowing down my choices to only two.

Card #1

My first is based off of the card on page 145 of the 2014-2015 annual catalog. What really caught my eye was the fun pattern.  I bought the Six Sided Sampler Stamp Set a few months back, but haven't used it much.  After making this card, I need to break it out more often.  My favorite part is definitely my silver glimmer paper.  I hoard this but forced myself to actually use it...  Love how it turned out.

Card #2

My second is based off of the card on page 67.  While I kept the design basically the same for my card, I changed a lot for this card.  Most of my changes stemmed from not having certain products.  I don't have Coastal Cabana enamel dots, so I went with the dot stamp from the Work of Art set.  I don't have the Dictionary Stamp for the background paper, so I used some In Color DSP instead.  Even with all the changes, the card is very similar to the one in the catalog.  And my version is much more "me."  Just a note, I free handed the wavy sides of the banner and the piece of Coastal Cabana DSP.

Make and Take and Stamp Club HW

I have two simple cards to share with you today. The first card was my make and take card from my May open house.  I wanted allow everyone to make a simple card for free, but not make it too complicated.  Enter the joys of monochromatic cards.  I found this example on Pinterest.  The original can be found at My Creative Corner.

And decided to recreate it using retiring colors and papers.  I have to use them somehow!  Each guest had the choice of making their card in Gumball Green, Summer Starfruit, Midnight Muse, Primrose Petals, or Raspberry Ripple.

Supplies:

  • Stamps: Wacky Wishes (retired)
  • Cardstock: Gumball Green (retired); 2012-2014 In Color DSP (retired)
  • Ink: Gumball Green (retired)
  • Accessories: 2012-2014 In Color Dahlias (retired)
  • Tools: Patterned scissors; Snail; Paper Trimmer

The second card was my May stamp club homework.  Our host is such a task master!  We have to do homework every month!  Oh, who am I kidding?  We love it and usually end up making more than one example.  I was distracted with other crafts this past month, so I only made one.  Here's the sketch from Operation Write Home:

My interpretation uses a ton of current in colors and some retired DSP.  I love the cool colors and pattern play.  I played with the dimensions a bit (i think they are a bit off), but kept the design just like the sketch.

Sunday Haul #1

Warning: This post is incredibly long and picture heavy.  I may have a bit of a crafting supply addiction...Every Sunday I will be highlighting the crafting products that I bought/received from the previous week. This first haul encompasses the craft purchases from the month of April and the first part of May.

Obligatory Michael's visit.  I run in to get snail, and look at all the stuff I bought!  (Not shown: Door prizes for my crafting open house a few weeks back).  I grabbed a cute desktop organizer that fits some of my PL cards, snail, pack of Amy Tangerine designed cardstock (really good weight), and the Inspirational PL Theme Pack.

I also received two RAKs in the mail.  I'm especially loving the alphabet stickers.  Can never have too many of those.

I received my PL Rain partial that I ordered from the FB group.  So pretty! Finally I have some cards with purple in them.  And I finally picked up a partial Midnight kit.

This past month I became a Stampin' Up demonstrator.  That also means that I had to order my starter kit.  $125 worth of product for $99!  I got my total down to having $0.25 left.  I'd say that I spent my money wisely.

  • Island Indigo Ink Pad -- How do I not own this ink pad yet?  I have the marker and adore the color.
  • Glue dots -- I use these a ton.
  • Glue sticks -- Bought for classes and workshops.
  • Embossing Buddy -- I have no idea where mine disappeared to...
  • Polka Dot 8" x 8" Album -- Thinking about making this my Daily December album for this coming year.
  • Green Dot 6" x 6" Album -- Not sure what to do with this one yet, but it was on clearance for a great price.
  • Letters to Santa DSP -- Clearance and retired, but such a cute pattern that I couldn't resist.
  • Epic Day This and That Stickers -- To go with the journal.  I already own the washi tape.
  • Blender Pens -- Been wanting these for awhile.  Figured I should finally buy them.
  • Basic Black Ink Pad -- My black ink pad is one of the old designs.  I know they've reformulated the ink, so I thought it was time for a new one.
  • 2013-2015 In Color DSP -- I really need to highlight these gorgeous colors more.

I also put in my April club order to snap up some retiring items.  All the items from my April club order are retiring and all but the markers are now completely gone.

  • 2012-2014 In Color 12x12 Cardstock
  • 2012-2014 In Color 8.5x11 Cardstock
  • 2012-2014 In Color Markers
  • Primrose Petals Reinker
  • Gumball Green Reinker
  • Summer Starfruit Reinker
  • Midnight Muse Reinker

I made another $150 order to get my 30% off in the first 45 days.

  • Birthday Cake Stamp (Retired)
  • Rich Razzleberry Ink
  • Calypso Coral Ink
  • Mosaic Madness Stamps
  • Mosaic Punch
  • Dimensionals
  • Daydream Medallions Stamps
  • Subtles 8.5x11 Cardstock (2 packs)
  • Project Life Card Collection -- not pictured
  • Project Life Accessory Pack -- not pictured
  • Project Life Stamps (both sets) -- not pictured

i stopped in at Big Lots randomly one day and snapped up some glue runner and paper packs.  My total for three paper packs and glue runner was $10.  Very cheap!

I took advantage of the tail end of SU's free shipping event to place my May club order early.

  • 2013-2015 In Color Core'dinations 12x12 cardstock
  • Retro Fresh This and That Stickers
  • Basic Pearls
  • Chalk Marker
  • Silver Glimmer Paper

I won a RAK of 5th and Frolic cards from one of my FB groups.  They finally came in the mail this weekend.

And I took advantage of RUKrisitin's Mother's Day Sale to snap up this box of goodness:
