JUGS248 and SSC79

Another day another challenge card.  I again combined two challenges to design a card a little out of my comfort zone.

Color Inspiration

Word Inspiration

My version

With those colors, I thought I would make a floral card, but my initial attempt at stamping a floral background was crap.  So I tried stamping the floral background directly onto the colored cardstock and liked it so much better.  But it was still a bit plain.  I went in with a couple of markers and did some selective coloring.  I love the effect!  I added the sentiment and little bird to complete the card.  I definitely want to play with that floral stamp set more...

Paisley Petals DSP Purge

Another attempt to get rid of my retired DSP.  This post's pack comes from a few years back.  I don't remember how old Paisley Petals is, but I do know that it's been sitting in my DSP box for at least a year.  After making the cards featured, I had a few scraps and some full sheets leftover.  I ended up putting the full sheets up for grabs to other crafting friends.  They kindly took them away from me.  One more pack down.

Card #1

Card Inspiration from Stampin Sunshine

Loved the inspiration card.  My version turned out okay, but not the best.  I really need different layered framelits.  I'm getting a bit sick of using my labels.

Gingham Garden DSP Purge

I made up my mind to use the very last of my Gingham Garden DSP.  I had about two half sheets remaining.  Of course i had to scour my Pinterest boards for some great inspiration.  In total, I made six cards with just a few scraps leftover. Card #1

Card Inspiration from AE Stamps a Latte

My version

i flipped this card on the side because my paper cuts did not line up vertically.  I may be a bit obsessive, but the Gingham Garden pattern just didn't look right turned the other way.  I also realized that I was out of Island Indigo card stock, so I substituted Island Indigo DSP.  Beyond that I tried to use my current supplies to give the card it's own look.  My favorite part is the candy dots on the hexagons (they pop more in real life).  I've had the Brights pack for awhile now and had yet to use it.  I may have a supply hoarding problem.  I love how they add just a little bit more dimension to the card.

  • Stamps: Six Sided Sampler
  • Inks: Island Indigo, So Saffron
  • Cardstock: Daffodil Delight; Gingham Garden DSP (retired); Brights Collection DSP; Whisper White
  • Accessories: Brights Collection Candy Dots
  • Tools: Hexagon Punch; Scallop Punch

Card #2

Card Inspiration from Too Cool Stamping

My version

I kept the basic design with just a few tweaks, mainly due to my own stash limitations.  I realized that I need to had Melon Mambo to my ink pads to buy list.  I am really warming up to that color.

  • Stamps: Sweet Essentials (retired); Morning Meadow (retired)
  • Inks: Regal Rose (retired)
  • Cardstock: Melon Mambo; Whisper White; Gingham Garden DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: Rhinestone Jewels
  • Tools: Hexagon Punch (banner ends); Pansy Punch

Card #3

Card Inspiration from Stamp with Amy K

My version

I think this is my favorite card of the set.  I was going to make this a fall sentiment card, but after finishing it, I thought sympathy or get well card.  It is so cool and calm.  And I love all the layers.  I changed up the color combo slightly from the example.  Amy had Garden Green and Pear Pizzazz.  I went with Old Olive and Pear Pizzazz.  It gives just a bit of a softer look.

  • Stamps: Magnificent Maple (retired); Sweet Essentials (retired)
  • Inks: Old Olive
  • Cardstock: Old Olive; Pear Pizzaz; Gingham Garden DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: Brights Collection Candy Dots
  • Tools:

Card #4

Card Inspiration from Nutz About Stamping

My version

I had used up all the Island Indigo gingham check paper, I decided to do a bit of substitution for this card.  With that change, I swapped out a ton of other pieces to create my own card.

  • Stamps: A Word for You (retired)
  • Inks: Island Indigo
  • Cardstock: Daffodil Delight; Whisper White; Brights Collection DSP
  • Accessories: Brights Collection Candy Dots
  • Tools: 2" Circle Punch; Pansy Punch; Hexagon Punch (banner ends)

Card #5

This card came from my desire to use a ton of the scraps laying on my craft table.  I love how bright and cheery this card is.  I think the Melon Mambo really pops!

  • Stamps: A Word for You (retired)
  • Inks: Island Indigo
  • Cardstock: Melon Mambo; Gingham Garden DSP (retired); Brights Collection DSP
  • Accessories: Brights Collection Candy Dots
  • Tools: Hexagon Punch (banner ends); Pansy Punch

Card #6

This card is so simple, but I love the mix of patterned paper.  As a late edition, I found an old Brights Collection Button Pack at the bottom of my embellishment box and had to add.

  • Stamps: Sweet Essentials (retired); Morning Meadow (retired)
  • Inks: Old Olive
  • Cardstock: Old Olive; Pear Pizzazz; Gingham Garden DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: Brights Collection Button (retired edition)
  • Tools: Pansy Punch

Originally published on February 2nd, 2014

I spent some time Sunday afternoon making some cards.  I had a few leftover kits from crop night, so I thought I would focus on those.  I took a few ideas from Pinterest and put my own spin on them.

For my versions, i used a ton of random paper from my stacks and a few Stampin' Up products.  I left off the ribbon in favor of a more streamlined one-layer (but not really) look.  My only complaint is that I don't own a circle punch between 1 1/4" and 2".  I really need to add that to my Stamp Club order for February.

Supplies:

  • Stamps: Stampin' Up Wacky Wishes
  • Inks: SU Primrose Petals, SU Garden Green
  • Cardstock: SU Primrose Petals, various scraps
  • Tools: Cuttlebug Swiss Dot Embossing Folder; 2" Circle Punch; 1 1/4" Circle Punch; 1" Circle Punch; SNAIL; Big Shot

I found an interestingly designed card on Pinterest, but couldn't find the original source.  Of course, this was after I had already made my own version of the card.  Oh well!  At least I can showcase my cards.  I played around with layering and shades of pink.

Supplies:

  • Stamps: Stampin' Up Morning Meadow; SU Flower Shop
  • Inks: SU Primrose Petals; SU Regal Rose; SU Garden Green; SU Certainly Celery
  • Cardstock: SU Primrose Petals, various scraps
  • Accessories: Rhinestone jewels
  • Tools: SU Pansy Punch; SNAIL; Dimensionals

I love the graduated colors of the original design and wanted to make my own interpretation.  I made a near copy of the original and then decided to play up with the placement of the butterflies for the second card.  I also used a ton of scraps for these.  The dimensions of the strips are 3/4" by 3 3/4", 3 1/2", and 3 1/4".

Supplies:

  • Stamps: Stampin' Up Banner Greetings
  • Inks: SU Primrose Petals
  • Cardstock: Scraps
  • Accessories: SU 2012-2014 In Color Dahlias
  • Tools: SU Elegant Butterfly Punch; SNAIL; Glue dots

Hope you enjoyed the cards.  I definitely enjoyed making them.

Archives: Cards #29

Originally published on January 19th, 2014 Before getting to the actual crafting, I wasn't able to get my SU order for December before leaving for Indiana.  I completely forget what I even ordered.  I was able to collect it at January stamp club.  Oh yeah, and December was my hostess month.  Lots and lots of goodies.

At stamp club, we made some cute cards.  It was also the start of our new 6 month round.  We drew hostess months and I got February.  Just in time for Sale-a-bration.  Now what should I order?

On the PL front, I finally got everything organized to put together the weekly spreads for the holidays.  I also got some great ideas from my Studio Calico class I joined for January.  Can't wait to put some of them into my spreads.  And I decided to do a monthly wrap-up page with my books read, life goals and progress, and photo a day pics.  I didn't want to have to include every photo a day pic, so I thought to combine some of my features into a monthly wrap up page.  Each month has one side (two months per page protector) using design F.  I have room for eight photo a day choice pics.  I went through and picked title, books read, and life goals inserts for each month.  I tried to play with some color schemes.  I plan on adding embellishments as I do the months.  In the meantime, here's a sneak peek of January's page:

Shopping Scores: Lots of new things!  I picked up some Project Life supplies online: G and H page protectors (for inserts), Seasons Mini Kit (had Holiday, wanted general seasons), a WRMK 3x4 and 4x6 kit (Tangerine), and some random cards from a fellow PLer (from Honey and Kraft kits).  And then I went to Michael's for snail and ended up buying a corner rounder punch (mine is horrid!) and a 2in circle punch.
