Simple Washi Tape Card

A duo of fun and simple washi tape cards. I have an entire bin of washi tape just sitting in my cabinets. I decided I really need to use them more. So I pulled out some fun retired Stampin' Up! washi tape to create these two different cards. First I hand drew a fun little border on my white cardstock. Then I adhered some washi tape strips. From there, I added a nice sentiment (seriously love the Better Together Stamp Set for great bigger sentiments). To finish, I added some sequins. Simple, yet great cards!

  • Inks: Basic Black; Melon Mambo
  • Cardstock: Melon Mambo; Smoky Slate; Whisper White

Washi Tape Holder

The perfect 3D project for this month's stamp club. I loved making this simple yet usable washi tape holder. Now I want to make a ton to hold all my washi, but I might just settle for a few to hold the current SU washi sets. The project may look complicated, but it's really very simple. The cuts and scores are as follows:

5 Tape Holder

Cardstock – 11 x 6-5/8″

Score on the LONG side at 1, 3, 5-1/2, 8, 10″

Score on the SHORT side at 2, 4-5/8″

3 Tape Holder

Cardstock – 11 x 5-5/8″

Score on the LONG side at 1, 3, 5-1/2, 8, 10″

Score on the SHORT side at 2, 3-5/8″

From there, you fold from the outside in to make the basic box. Cut diagonally to create the opening on either side of the box. To finish, add washi tape around the edge to hold the two flaps together.

  • Stamps: Timeless Textures
  • Inks: Melon Mambo
  • Cardstock: Whisper White
  • Accessories: It's My Party Washi Tape

30 Days of Christmas Cards Day 3

Day 3's card celebrates my love of washi tape! I have a huge bin of washi tape and I still buy more when I end up at Michael's or Joann's. For this card, I used washi tape from Stampin' Up. I love that they now sell washi tape that coordinates with all their colors. I love this card so much! I may have to make a few more.

  • Cardstock: Cherry Cobbler; Old Olive; Whisper White

Mini Modified Notebooks

Today's project is one of my favorite non-card crafts. I love making modified notebooks! So for August stamp club, I decided to have my ladies make their own mini modified notebooks. For my own, I went with an antique look. A bit of map paper is perfect for that antique look. But the paper by itself looked a bit too plain. I took a brayer and added some blue and yellow ink. Much better! A little washi tape and a nice little sentiment finished off the card.

Blog Calendar

I attempted a non-greeting card project the other day. While it's done and up, I feel like this was one of those potential Pinterest fails. I saw cute chalkboard calendars online and wanted one of my own. I bought some adhesive chalkboard sheets online. I pieced those together and adhered them to the wall. From there, I added washi tape to mark off the boxes. The month name is also done in washi tape. Finally, I bought some liquid chalk markers to fill out my calendar. The sheets on the side are my monthly goals. Posting them will hopefully keep my goals in my mind.

I like the look of the craft, but I can see some issues with this project. The washi tape and chalkboard pieces do not stay on the wall very well. Maybe it's just because our walls are too bumpy. At any rate, I have had to smooth this out a few times in the last four days. I will probably get angry at some point in the near future and rip it down. We'll see. Cute idea, not so great execution.

Fancy Folds Class - Part 2

In May I held a class featuring four cards with fancy folds. I tend to keep the same style of cards, but decided this was a great chance to learn some new techniques.

Card #1

I found a great little tutorial for a steps card. I love the finished look of these and knew I wanted to do my own. Take a piece of cardstock measuring 4 1/4" x 11" and score as 1 1/4", 2 1/2", 4 1/4", 6", 8 1/4". From there cut a separate piece of same colored cardstock to 4 1/4" by 5 1/8". Fold the card into steps and attach the other piece of cardstock to stand up the card. From there, I cut the DSP to 1" by 4", 1 1/2" by 4", and 4 3/4" by 4". I layered a smaller piece of white paper to put add a fun sentiment. To finish the card, I added some die cut flowers in coordinating inks.

  • Stamps: Wacky Wishes (retired); Secret Garden (retired)
  • Inks: Melon Mambo; Tangerine Tango; Pacific Point; Wild Wasabi
  • Cardstock: Melon Mambo; Beyond the Garden DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: Garden Party Washi Tape (retired)
  • Tools: Secret Garden Framelits (retired)

Card #2

Love this tri-fold class! Start with a 8" by 12" piece of cardstock. Line up the piece at a diagonal and cut. It doesn't need to be precise. You can make the angle as steep as you want. Score at 4", flip around, and score at 4". Fold the card and you're ready to decorate.

To decorate, I created my own piece of DSP with the circle stamp from Work of Art. Once that was done, I cut the pieces to add to the cardstock. Finally I decorated and cut out some balloons. Perfect!

  • Stamps: Celebrate Today (retired); Work of Art
  • Inks: Pistachio Pudding (retired); Crisp Cantaloupe (retired); Pool Party; Basic Gray
  • Cardstock: Crisp Cantaloupe (retired)
  • Accessories: Gray twin
  • Tools: Balloon Framelits

Floral Cards #2

The second half of my All About Florals class focused on simple yet beautiful cards.

Card #1

I saw a great card on Pinterest using hexagons to make flowers. I definitely needed to try this idea. This is a great card design to play with patterns and colors. I pulled a few patterns from the All Abloom DSP stack that spoke to me and played with the combinations until I settled on these. I love how the patterns don't match but do coordinate. For something extra I embossed the white piece and DSP with my Decorative Dots Embossing folder. Just a little bit to make the card more special.

  • Stamps: Simply Wonderful
  • Inks: Strawberry Slush
  • Cardstock: Blushing Bride; All Abloom DSP; Whisper White
  • Accessories: Dots Embossing Folder
  • Tools: Hexagon Punch

Card #2

My last card also had an inspiration from Pinterest. I love using washi tape and this design is the perfect excuse to use a ton! I pulled similarly colored washi tape (from two different SU collections) and created a pattern of colors as a background. For the stamp, I masked out the "hey there" greeting and just stamped the flower. I love how easy it is to masked out parts of stamps that you don't want! I do not have the Crisp Cantaloupe marker otherwise coloring the stamp would have been just as easy. I added a different greeting layered over the flower. The white piece was feeling very plain so I mounted it to a piece of Basic Gray to give some dimensional. Finally I threw on some silver sequins to liven up the card a bit.

  • Stamps: Hey There Buds; Simple Wonderful
  • Inks: Crisp Cantaloupe; Basic Gray
  • Cardstock: Basic Gray; Smoky Slate; Whisper White
  • Accessories: Silver Sequins; Sweet Sadie washi tape; Sweet Dreams washi tape

Modified Notebooks

Last Sunday, I held a modified notebooks class at my house. I've held the class once before, but decided it was such a great project that they needed to be featured today.

For my examples, I used a mix of SU and non-SU products.  This is a great project to use up scraps and random embellishments.  For the big notebooks, I glue on a full sheet of DSP using sticky strip. I then cut around the notebook to get the perfect fit. I add a 1" strip on the binding. Lastly I re-enforce the small strip and cover the rest of the binding with washi tape. From there I embellish.

  • Bases: Mead Compositions Books (bought one super sale during Back to School); $1 journals from Michael's/Joann's/etc
  • Paper: SU DSP (mostly retired); Coordinating Recollections Patterned Paper; Kraft paper (cover smaller journals)
  • Stamps: Hello There (Hostess); Kinda Eclectic
  • Ink: Night of Navy; Chocolate Chip; Blackberry Bliss; Baked Brown Sugar; Gumball Green (retired)
  • Embellishments: Mambi alphas; Various washi tape; Recollections fabric flowers; scrap paper; SU Candy Dots
  • Tools: Ovals Framelits; Starburst Framelits; Floral Frames Framelits; Butterfly Punches; Decorative masks

I love how my class attendees customized their notebooks. They picked their favorite colors and patterned paper. For the small notebooks, they changed up the decorative masks and and butterflies.

For the upcoming mom's retreat, I decided to make modified notebooks for the participants. Each one of the ten notebooks uses different paper combinations and washi tape. My plan is to let each participant chose their notebook and then add an initial sticker. I think my personal favorite is the hot pink and green notebook.
