Memory Planning January 2017

For 2017, I am diving into memory planning. I was admiring all the gorgeous examples from creatives I follow, but was scared to start another project. But then, I joined the Awesome Ladies Project where rukristin encourages us to tell our own story. I realized that the Project Life scrapbooks are mainly focused on my children. I occasionally include stuff about me or what I'm doing, but it's rare. I decided to create a scrapbook to tell my own story, but didn't want to attempt another 12x12 PL album. I already do 5 (one family and one for each of the boys), I just could do another. Then I remembered all those who memory plan. Perfect! After Christmas, I bought a Big Happy Planner with my Michael's gift card.

I started to think about layouts and what to include. To make it easier to include items and photos focused on me, I started Project365 Me on Instagram. I try to take a photo each day that's focused on myself and not the kiddos. I also decided to include a photo of each book read and each craft or card made. On Tuesdays, I plan to do a Currently segment. Occasionally the kiddos will appear in the planner (how could they not?), but I want to focus on me.

In terms of supplies, I went and bought a few MAMBI sticker packs for the new Big Planners (Color Story and Memory Planner). I also raided my washi tape stash for coordinating colors and fun patterns. I decided to follow the color cues from the planner itself. I picked this one because it was full of bright colors but used as accents instead of covering the pages. Beyond that, I have a ton of crafting embellishments and stickers. I'm certain I'll be able to find sticker and decorations.

The last consideration I had was for the photos themselves. Some memory planners use a photo printer or a small printer like the Polaroid Zip or the HP Sprocket. While it would be convenient, I'm still torn on spending the money on one of those items. Instead, I discovered collage prints through Walgreens. You can add between 2 and 20 photos onto a single print (4x6, 5x7 or 8x10). I usually add 4 prints onto a 4x6 print. I have to cut them apart once I pick up the prints, but they are just about the perfect size for the planner. The 4x6 prints are $0.39 each, but I've been buying when all prints are on sale. It works for now. Maybe I'll get a printer at a later date, but for now the collage prints are my go-to.

Trucks in a Line

Today’s card is being featured on Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration. The challenge was to create a using your scraps. I always seems to have these little strips of DSP that I just can't bear to throw away. It's such pretty paper! So today I grabbed a couple of those random strips and made a platform on which to place my super cute taco trucks. I colored my trucks taking cues from the Party Animal DSP (adding in Real Red). I love how the strips of DSP bring an added element to the card.

  • Stamps: Tasty Trucks
  • Inks: Early Espresso; Real Red; Tangerine Tango; Crushed Curry; Tempting Turquoise; Emerald Envy
  • Cardstock: Party Animal DSP; Crushed Curry; Emerald Envy; Whisper White

SSINKCS42: I Scream, You Scream

Today’s card is being featured on Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration. The challenge was to create a card using the sketch below.

My card features items from the super fun Cool Treats suite in the Occasions Catalog. I had fun playing with the patterns from the paper pack. Because of the riot of pattern, I kept the stamping fairly simple with a big sentiment and a fun ice cream cone. It's hard to see in the photo, but the watermelon part of the ice cream has extra shine with Wink of Stella. After layering the paper, I added some fun coordinating washi tape and enamel shapes to finish out the card.

  • Stamps: Cool Treats
  • Inks: Watermelon Wonder; Crumb Cake; Chocolate Chip; Peekaboo Peach
  • Cardstock: Tasty Treats DSP; Peekaboo Peach; Whisper White
  • Accessories: Tasty Treats Washi Tape; 2015-2017 Enamel Shapes
  • Tools: Frozen Treats Framelits; Stitched Shapes Framelits

Festive Dinosaur

Today’s card is being featured on Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration. The challenge was to create a card using your favorite animal stamp. Hands down my favorite animal stamp is the dinosaurs from No Bones About It. I love that I can layer the solid images and the skeletons. Such a cute visual! I decided to play with a simple color scheme of blue and orange with a yellow accent. I love the play of subtle patterns in the DSP. Because of the DSP, I kept my dinosaur image and sentiment simple.

  • Stamps: No Bones About It
  • Inks: Pumpkin Pie; Soft Sky; Tempting Turquoise
  • Cardstock: Festive Birthday DSP; Soft Sky; Tempting Turquoise; Whisper White
  • Accessories: Metallic Enamel Shapes

Project Life October 2016

Instead of showing you the October pages from the family album, I though I would highlight the October pages from Quentin's album. The family album's pages were kept pretty plain...

We are always excited to hear from our followers! If a link doesn’t work or you get off track, you will find the full blog hop lineup below.

I decided to feature a simple love card featuring the beautifully simple Sending Love DSP. I'm not huge on Valentine's Day cards and all the red and pink, so I tend to go pretty simple wth my cards. For today's card, I focused on the heart shape and our Sending Love DSP. No extras embellishments or layers. I love how simple the cards is. One of my favorites.

Another fun heart card. Once I got started, I couldn't stop myself from making another card...

Split Flowers

Today’s card is being featured on Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration. The challenge was to create a get well or sympathy card. Most of my sympathy cards feature flowers or butterflies. For this card, I wanted to feature this great and colorful paper from the Affectionately Yours DSP and the beautiful Mint Macaron ribbon. To bring a bit more to the card, I added some tone-on-tone fussy cut flowers.

  • Stamps: Love and Affection
  • Inks: Night of Navy; Watermelon Wonder; Mint Macaron; Daffodil Delight
  • Cardstock: Affectionately Yours DSP; Crumb Cake; Night of Navy; Watermelon Wonder; Mint Macaron; Daffodil Delight

Currently...

Watching: J was surprised to learn that I've never seen most of 30 Rock. Guess what we started from the beginning.

Reading: A Study of Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas. Picked it up from the library and loving it so far.

Listening: Both boys have been super whiners the last few days. So over this.

Making: Our parent group Valentine's Exchange is on Thursday. I'm making one set of 32 for Q to "hand out." Arthur requested Paw Patrol ones.

Feeling: I've been feeling very scatter-brained for the past two weeks. I kept losing my train of thought, forgetting tasks, and feeling very anxious. Not a fan of my current state.

Planning: Trying to get some craft classes and events on the calendar for February and March.

Loving: I love listening to the rain. And in the past week it's actually rained hard enough for me to listen!

I knew I wanted to make a simple card with my new Birdcage Builder stamp set. i created a tower of birdcages and filled them with colorful birds. From there, I repeated the featured colors with strips of plain cardstock. I finished off the card with a sentiment and a few gold sequins for shine.

Falling Butterfly

Today’s card is being featured on Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration. The challenge was to create a card using our favorite paper from the Occasions Catalog. I don't usually gravitate to the soft feminine patterns, but I completely fell for the Falling in Love DSP! I decided to repeat the butterflies in the paper by die cutting a large butterfly in coordinately colors. The floral pattern paper is hands-down my favorite pattern from the pack and had to include it on the card. To finish the card, I added a sentiment and and shimmer and shine (Wink of Stella and pearls).

Detail of the Wink of Stella on the butterfly

  • Stamps: Blooms & Wishes
  • Inks: Rich Razzleberry
  • Cardstock: Falling in Love DSP; Sweet Sugarplum; Blushing Bride
  • Accessories: Pearls
  • Tools: Lots of Labels Framelits; Bold Butterfly Thinlits; Wink of Stella
