Sympathy with Daisy

I don't like to make sympathy cards, but sometimes they are needed. Today's card features the gorgeous Delightful Daisy DSP as the main focal point. I let the DSP patterns stand by themselves. I added a strip of copper foil paper to tie into the copper heat embossed sentiment.

Detail of heat embossing:

  • Stamps: Better Together
  • Inks: Basic Versamark
  • Cardstock: Delightful Daisy DSP; Copper Foil; Tip Top Taupe (retired); Old Olive
  • Accessories:
  • Tools: Copper Embossing Powder

Faux Patina

Today’s card challenge is a technique! I choose to attempt my hand at the faux patina technique. While this technique is more involved than some others, it's really not that hard to accomplish. I found a great tutorial here.

I ended up with a more colorful background than the card in the tutorial, but I love the peeks of color I get with this card. As I wanted the technique to be the focus of the card, I kept my embellishments to a minimum. I added a simple banner sentiment with coordinating cardstock banner put together with a brad. (Side note: Why did I stop using brads? I love how they look on cards. I need to make a mental note to use them more often...) I ended up sending this to my father-in-law for Father's Day last month. The ladies of stamp club made this in June and I loved seeing the varied results. Some chose a different metal (pewter, copper, or silver), some changed up the background color, and some changed the sentiment. I love when they made the cards their own!

Shiny Happy Day

Today’s card is a great quick and easy card. I love using up those leftover scraps of DSP that always seem to be hanging out on my desk. This card creates a fun patterned background using those scraps. Once the paper is in place, all you need is a great sentiment and maybe an embellishment. I decided to give the card something extra by heat embossing my sentiment and echoing the copper with the washi tape.

  • Inks: Versamark
  • Cardstock: Affectionately Yours DSP; Watermelon Wonder; Whisper White
  • Accessories: Affectionately Yours Washi Tape

Copper Birthday

Today’s card is being featured on Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration. The challenge was to create a birthday card. I always need great birthday cards for my personal card stash. For this card, I played off of a fun color combo of Calypso Coral, Island Indigo, and Copper. I built my cake and added a heat embossed banner. I repeated the copper with a small copper foil banner sticking out from behind the cake. Simple card, but I love it!

  • Inks: Calypso Coral; Island Indigo
  • Cardstock: A Little Foxy DSP; Copper Foil; Island Indigo; Whisper White

Botanical Garden

Today’s card is being featured on Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration. The challenge was to create a Saint Patrick's Day card or a green card. I opted for a green card. This was such a fun card to create! And it's a very versatile card. Change the colors, the DSP, and/or the sentiment to create a very different looking card. For this one, I heat embossed my sentiment before creating a watercolor wash. I stamped on a bit of background pattern using tone-on-tone stamping. I layered small piece of DSP to give a bit of visual interest. And finally I die cut and layered some flowers. Seriously, I am in love with card!

SSINKTC42: Understated Bloom

Today’s card is being featured on Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration. The challenge was to create a card using the technique below.

For my card, I used the traditional way of doing stained glass cards. I have also seen others use a large cutout die (like the Rose Garden Thinlits) and replace the middle pieces with colored paper. Very cool effect, but I enjoy doing the heat embossing and vellum technique. For my card, I used the Birthday Blooms stamp set as my stained glass image. I have found that the trick to coloring is to use darker markers to show the color more. After coloring, I handcut my vellum and placed it in the corner of my card. I added a metallic doily and a sentiment.

Detailed of the flower:

  • Stamps: Birthday Blooms; Dragonfly Dreams
  • Inks: Perfect Plum; Elegant Eggplant; Always Artichoke; Pumpkin Pie
  • Cardstock: Falling in Love DSP; Very Vanilla; Crumb Cake
  • Accessories: Metallic Doily
  • Tools: Gold Embossing Powder; Vellum

Navy and Watercolor

Today’s card is being featured on Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration. The challenge was to create a quick and easy card. I decided to feature this gorgeous new navy and white dsp and the beautiful copper accents. I stamped the flowers onto watercolor paper and used my aqua painter to add some navy. From there, I added a strip of copper featured washi tape and heat embossed the sentiment. Layering that on top of a navy cardstock, I placed my main piece onto a piece of lovely Floral Boutique DSP. Such a lovely card in person.

  • Cardstock: Floral Boutique DSP; Night of Navy; Watercolor Paper
  • Accessories: Affectionately Yours Washi Tape

Celebrate 2017!

Today’s card is being featured on Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration. The challenge was to create a New Year's Card. I decided to use the fun Paisleys stamp set one last time this season. After three different attempts, I landed on this great design using a circle mask. All I needed to add was a simple sentiment and layer of DSP.  Can't wait to see everyone in 2017!

Detail of the heat embossing:

  • Stamps: Paisleys and Posies; Suite Sayings
  • Inks: Rich Razzleberry; Versamark
  • Cardstock: Petals and Paisleys DSP; Rich Razzleberry; Sweet Sugarplum; Whisper White

Wonderful Scraps

What to do with all the scraps of DSP you inevitably have leftover? Make a fun card with them of course! Siimply cut some DSP down to 3/4" x  3 3/4" and create a background pattern. A simple heat embossed sentiment and a few embellishment create a great card! Tomorrow I'll show you another fun way to use your scraps.

  • Stamps: Wonderful Year
  • Inks: Versamark
  • Cardstock: Presents and Pinecones DSP; Cherry Cobbler; Mint Macaron; Whisper White
  • Accessories: Gold Sequin Trim; Emerald Envy Metallic Thread
  • Tools: Gold Embossing Powder

Glitter and Bow

Today’s card is being featured on Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration. The challenge was to create a Christmas card. I went with a fun and simple card that packs a hidden surprise. This cute card started with the fun DSP from Candy Cane Lane. I love the fun pattern and wanted to make sure to highlight it on the card. From there, I added a sentiment, but it turned out just adding a sentiment stamped in Real Red was too boring. Instead, I stamped my sentiment in Versamark and added the Real Red Glitter Embossing Powder to added that something extra to the card. You can't quite tell from the picture, but that sentiment is just full of glitter fun! As a finishing touch, I created a fun bow using my Envelope Punch Board. Such a great card!

  • Stamps: Wonderful Year
  • Inks: Versamark
  • Cardstock: Candy Cane Lane DSP; Crumb Cake; Early Espresso; Whisper White
  • Accessories: Red Glitter Embossing Powder
  • Tools: Circles Framelits; Envelope Punch Board (bow)
