I love love love this song and her interpretation is just amazing.
Music Monday -- iPod Shuffle October
Since I've finished my 101 Faves series for Music Monday, I thought I would do something complete different. I turned on my iPod, hit shuffle, and recorded my first 5 songs. I'm thinking of making this a monthly feature... This shuffle is mostly older, but much loved songs. Enjoy!
1. "Tonight, Not Again" by Jason Mraz (live version from Tonight, Not Again)
2. "Bring the Night On" by Eve 6 (It's All in Your Head)
3. "Seven Wonders" by Nickel Creek (This Side)
4. "Apres Moi" by Regina Spektor (Begin to Hope)
5. "Wherever You Will Go" by The Calling (Camino Palmero)
Music Monday -- 101 Faves Duets Edition
As part of my ongoing Day Zero Project, I've made a list of my favorite 101 songs of all time. To help cut down on the possibilities, I took songs only from my iTunes account. Each edition will include ~5 songs with a theme. Enjoy!
Hayley Williams and B.O.B. "Airplanes"
Allison Krauss and Brad Paisley "Whiskey Lullaby"
Ben Folds and Regina Spektor "You Don't Know Me"
Music Monday -- Favorite Covers VII
While sifting through all our music, I came across a ton of songs (over 1000) that I wanted to add to my 101 Favorite Songs list. I had to narrow it down. As part of my narrowing, I decide to delete all covers from the list. But those are some great songs, ones I really love. So, I decided to give them their own series on Music Monday. If you like covers, stay tuned for some good ones. Part I,Part II,Part III, Part IV, Part V, Part VI.
Sarah Brightman "Dust in the Wind"
Original -- Kansas
Adele "Make You Feel My Love"
Original -- Bob Dylan
Mumford and Sons "The Boxer" (the live version is pretty amazing if you ignore the random yelling and talking)
Original -- Simon and Garfunkel
Regina Spektor "Real Love"
Original -- The Beatles
Reel Big Fish "Take on Me"
Original -- A-Ha
Music Monday -- 101 Faves Quirky Edition
As part of my ongoing Day Zero Project, I've made a list of my favorite 101 songs of all time. To help cut down on the possibilities, I took songs from my iTunes account. Each edition will include ~5 songs with theme. Enjoy! For those quirky singers/bands, I show my love.
Dresden Dolls "Sing" -- How much do I love this band? Bunches and bunches. I thought about putting "Coin Operated Boy" or "Good Day" on here, but I love "Sing" and its uplifting message. So here you go...
Regina Spektor "Apres Moi" -- Love her bridge in Russian. It just sounds so amazing. I still need to get her newest album.
Amanda Palmer "Astronaut" -- One half of The Dresden Dolls, all by herself. I am part of the world that loves her.
Ben Folds "Narcolepsy" -- Has collaborated with Amanda Palmer and Regina Spektor, weird coincidence. Plus, I saw him in concert with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and he rocked the Embassy.
Music Monday -- Regina Spektor "Fidelity"
I can't believe that I've never highlighted this song on the blog. I absolutely adore her voice and her whole sound. It's so quirky but easily to connect to. She writes very personal songs of life. Plus, check out the gorgeous visuals in the video.
Lyrics (my favorite lines in bold):
I never loved nobody fully Always one foot on the ground And by protecting my heart truly I got lost in the sounds I hear in my mind All these voices I hear in my mind all these words I hear in my mind all this music
And it breaks my heart And it breaks my heart And it breaks my heart It breaks my heart
And suppose I never ever met you Suppose we never fell in love Suppose I never ever let you kiss me so sweet and so soft Suppose I never ever saw you Suppose we never ever called Suppose I kept on singing love songs just to break my own fall Just to break my fall Just to break my fall Break my fall Break my fall
All my friends say that of course its gonna get better Gonna get better Better better better better Better better better
I never love nobody fully Always one foot on the ground And by protecting by heart truly I got lost In the sounds I hear in my mind All these voices I hear in my mind all these words I hear in my mind All this music And it breaks my heart It breaks my heart
I hear in my mind all of these voices I hear in my mind all of these words I hear in my mind all of this music
Breaks my Heart Breaks my heart
Music Monday - Regina Spektor "Blue Lips"
I love Regina Spektor. She's so weird... in a good way. Her music is very unsuaul, definitely not everyone's cup of tea. But that's okay, I like it. I stumbled onto her album Begin to Hope right as "Fidelity" hit some of the radio stations. It was a moderate hit, and then faded into the background. I stayed with her. I listened to that album nonstop for a awhile. And then she released Far. And it was much quirkier than Begin to Hope. And I liked the quirkiness. By far, my favorite song on the album is "Blue Lips." Right away I liked the music. And then I started to listen to the lyrics. It took me a awhile to really get them. Her lyrics are often intricate, sometimes confusing, but always interesting. I relate to her questioning of religions... is all the mindless submission really the point? Aren't we supposed to question? Shouldn't we attempt to understand?
I had to include the full lyrics, because one part just doesn't make any sense. It's a story; a story of revelation.
He stumbled into faith and thought, God this is all there is The pictures in his mind arose and began to breathe And all the Gods and all the worlds Began colliding on a backdrop of blue
Blue lips, blue veins
He took a step but then felt tired, he said I'll rest a little while But when he tried to walk again he wasn't a child And all the people hurried fast, real fast And no one ever smiled
Blue lips, blue veins Blue, the color of our planet from far, far away Blue lips, blue veins Blue, the color of our planet from far, far away
He stumbled into faith and thought, God this is all there is The pictures in his mind arose and began to breathe And no one saw and no one heard, they just followed lead The pictures in his mind awoke and began to breed
They started out, beneath the knowledge tree And they chopped it down to make white picket fences And marching along the railroad tracks They smile real wide for the camera lenses They made it past the enemy lines Just to become enslaved in the assembly lines
