Music Monday -- 101 Faves Duets Edition

As part of my ongoing Day Zero Project, I've made a list of my favorite 101 songs of all time.  To help cut down on the possibilities, I took songs only from my iTunes account.  Each edition will include ~5 songs with a theme.  Enjoy!

Hayley Williams and B.O.B. "Airplanes"

Allison Krauss and Brad Paisley "Whiskey Lullaby"

Ben Folds and Regina Spektor "You Don't Know Me"

Music Monday -- Favorite Covers II

While sifting through all our music, I came across a ton of songs (over 1000) that I wanted to add to my 101 Favorite Songs list.  I had to narrow it down.  As part of my narrowing, I decide to delete all covers from the list.  But those are some great songs, ones I really love.  So, I decided to give them their own series on Music Monday.  If you like covers, stay tuned for some good ones. Part I.

Ben Folds "Tiny Dancer" -- Ignore the visuals, the sound is great.

Original -- Elton John

Chris Thile "Dead Leaves and a Dirty Ground" -- Love his version, such a different sound than The White Stripes..

Original -- The White Stripes

Glee "Dream On" -- The video versions were all horrible, just listen...

Original -- Aerosmith

Alien Ant Farm "Smooth Criminal"

Original -- Michael Jackson (long version for you...)

Nickel Creek "Tomorrow is a Long Time" -- I love her voice!

Original -- Bob Dylan

Music Monday -- 101 Faves Quirky Edition

As part of my ongoing Day Zero Project, I've made a list of my favorite 101 songs of all time.  To help cut down on the possibilities, I took songs from my iTunes account.  Each edition will include ~5 songs with theme.  Enjoy! For those quirky singers/bands, I show my love.

Dresden Dolls "Sing" -- How much do I love this band?  Bunches and bunches.  I thought about putting "Coin Operated Boy" or "Good Day" on here, but I love "Sing" and its uplifting message.  So here you go...

Regina Spektor "Apres Moi" -- Love her bridge in Russian.  It just sounds so amazing.  I still need to get her newest album.

Amanda Palmer "Astronaut" -- One half of The Dresden Dolls, all by herself.  I am part of the world that loves her.

Ben Folds "Narcolepsy" -- Has collaborated with Amanda Palmer and Regina Spektor, weird coincidence.  Plus, I saw him in concert with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and he rocked the Embassy.

Music Monday -- Ben Folds "Best Imitation of Myself"

Ben Folds is such a weird character.  I absolutely love him and his music.  And this is my absolute favorite song from him.  A few years ago I saw him and my hometown philharmonic at our beautiful theater.  I don't think the crowd knew what to think.  Half the crowd was there for the Philharmonic, a fourth was there for Ben Folds, and a fourth was there for both.  I was there for both.  But it definitely made for an interesting concert.  My favorite part: the crowd sing a long for "Army."  Awesome!!!!

Lyrics (my favorite lines in bold):

I feel like a quote out of context Withholding the rest So I can be for you what you want to see I got the gesture and sound Got the timing down It's uncanny, yeah, you think it was me Do you think I should take a class To lose my southern accent Did I make me up, or make the face till it stuck I do the best imitation of myself The "problem with you" speech You gave me was fine I liked the theories about my little stage And I swore I was listening But I started drifting Around the part about me acting my age Now if it's all the sameI've people to entertainI juggle one handedDo some magic tricks andThe best imitation of myself Maybe I'm thinking myself in a hole Wondering, who I am when I ought to know Straighten up now time to go Fool somebody else, fool somebody else Last night I was east with them And west within Trying to be for you what you wanna see But I can't help it with you The good and bad comes through Don't want you hanging out with No one but me Now if it's all the same It comes from the same place And if my mind's somewhere else You won't be able to tell I do the best imitation of myself Yes it's uncanny to see You'd really think it was me The best imitation of myself The best imitation of myself
