101 in 1001 Update #11

What I did:

1.Send out homemade holiday cards in December 2x (1/2) -- I actually remembered to send these out with traveling and crazy toddler antics!

8. Choose and document One Little Word 2015 -- Finished! I decided that I didn't love this process, so I'm not going to participate in 2016. Instead I will be focusing on a variation of Gretchen Rubin's Happiness Project. For the purpose of the Day Zero Project, this goal has been completed.

13. Pass 500 books for Arthur’s 1000 Books Before Kindergarten (423/500) -- 14 new picture books this past month!

22. Ask 20 friends to suggest one book, and read them all -- I asked for recommendations on FB this past week. The books highlighted are going on my TBR list for 2016.

26. Read 50 of my owned unread books (50/50)  -- And with this month's reading, I've finished this goal! Even though this goal is crossed off my list, I'm still trying to read from my own shelves and empty out some space.

28. Read 100,000 pages toward 1,000,000 page goal (34,128/100,000) — In November, I only read 2215 pages. Not great, but I'll take it.

34. Make 250 different greeting cards (157/250) -- 15 new designs this past month. Getting closer to this goal!

40. Complete a year of no book buying -- Did it! Woohoo! I'm not going to go crazy buying books in 2016, but I am giving myself permission to grab a book or two when I see a great deal.

As we near the end of 2015, I've chosen to modify a few goals. Those with an asterisk have been modified.

What I did:

8. Choose and document One Little Word 2015 and 2016 -- Still plugging away...

28. Read 100,000 pages toward 1,000,000 page goal (22,722/100,000) -- In July I read 3438 pages! Very good reading month!

34. Make 250 different greeting cards (69/250) -- 13 more differently designed greeting cards. Making progress on this goal!

45. Make 50 new recipes (26/50)

  • Kale caesar pasta salad -- Oh my yummy! Especially when I added a bit of salami.
  • Fresh tomato sauce -- Found a super simple recipe to make fresh tomato sauce. Definitely going into heavy rotation.
  • Ranch chicken club roll-ups -- Nope.

54. Try 25 new restaurants (12/25) -- We spent last Sunday in Niles riding the old train. We stopped at Joe's Corner for some lunch. I got the chicken pesto panini. Very yummy!

92. Participate in 30 Day Wardrobe Challenge -- I've been doing a summer capsule wardrobe that is ending this week. I'm counting it as my 30 Day Wardrobe Challenge. I kept my wardrobe to about 50 pieces and really weeded out what I like and what I don't. It was a great experiment.

101 in 1001 Update #2

Two months into my second attempt at 101 in 1001 and things are moving along swimmingly...

What I did:

8. Choose and document One Little Word 2015 and 2016 -- Still keeping my word at the front of my mind. I've finished Arthur's two rooms and started major work on some of the others. I need to tackle the twins' room when I get back to Indiana.

13. Pass 500 books for Arthur's 1000 Books Before Kindergarten -- We're up to 183 different books so far! Hopefully we can get to the library soon for another good new book haul.

14. Throw a Favorite Things party -- Did this as an activity at our women's retreat. It was so much fun, we're going to do a kid's version after I get back from Indiana.

21. Make 10 non-greeting card crafts on my Pinterest boards -- I made some great gift tags for the retreat, a welcome baby banner for a shower, favor boxes for a bridal shower, and decorated chalkboard signs for the shower. So that's four different crafts down!

26. Read 50 of my owned unread books -- For February, I read 6 of my own unread books! Woohoo! Progress!

28. Read 100,000 pages toward 1,000,000 page goal -- February's total pages read was 2226 which puts me at 4271 pages so far.

29. Finish 2015 and 2016 Project Life book (family and Arthur) -- Still plugging along on this. Loving how the new monthly format is working out!

34. Make 250 different greeting cards -- 14 different designs made this month! I had some great inspiration from Stampin' Up's Occasions and Sale-a-Bration catalogs. 229 to go!

37. Finish watching every Star Trek television episode and movie -- Still working on this goal.

42. Participate in 30 Days of Lists 2x -- Almost finished with March's edition. I love this little twice (and sometimes three) times a year challenge.

45. Make 50 new recipes -- Four new recipes, all winners, for this month!

  • Garlic Parmesan Salmon: Not enough flavor, but I can probably fix it next time
  • Texas Cheese Fries: So good! And I made a light version with less fat.
  • Pesto Pasta with Sun Dried Tomatoes and Asparagus: I added black olives to this recipe and loved it. So easy to make and great for leftovers!
  • Homemade Vegetable Beef Soup: Very good recipe and so yummy!

54. Try 25 new restaurants -- We tried five new restaurants this month: Diggers (decent burgers), Buffalo Bill's Brewery (not very good), Postales Taqueria (yum yum), Top Thai (decent), and Acqua E' Farina (decent Italian place).

61. Get three pedicures -- Getting one done today as part of the bachelorette party I organized.

101 in 1001 Update #1

My first update during my second attempt at 101 in 1001...

What I did:

8. Choose and document One Little Word 2015 and 2016 -- I chose my 2015 word (HOME) and have completed January and February prompts. I've also done a fair amount projects related to my word.

10. Take a picture of myself every first day of the month -- It's hard, but I've done it for January and February so far.

13. Pass 500 books for Arthur's 1000 Books Before Kindergarten -- We read 18 new books in January which puts us at 166 total books.

15. Host a Pinterest party/crafting day/crop -- With my new Meetup group, I've committed to hosting an open house / crop day once a month. January was a big success and I've already scheduled February, March, and April's days.

19. Create and order my own personalized stamp -- Ordered and arrived. I've already used it a few times.

24. Attend 5 concerts -- J and I saw Tim Minchin in San Francisco a few weeks back. Awesome concert!

25. Complete 10 Day in the Life posts -- My thought is to do one of these once a quarter. I've gotten Winter 2015's done and scheduled to publish this week.

26. Read 50 of my owned unread books -- January I only read 3 books from shelves, but it's a start!

28. Read 100,000 pages toward 1,000,000 page goal -- January's total pages read was 2045.

29. Finish 2015 and 2016 Project Life book (family and Arthur) -- I've started on 2015's PL books. I finished the family's January pages and started Arthur's January pages. I want to finish his pages during the retreat next weekend.

34. Make 250 different greeting cards -- 7 different designs done. 243 to go...

37. Finish watching every Star Trek television episode and movie -- I've already finished Next Gen. We are in the middle of The Original Series, Voyager, DS9, Enterprise, and the movies.

45. Make 50 new recipes -- I've tried 6 new recipes in January and the first half of February. Most will go into our regular rotation (pork roast wasn't the best...).

  • Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes
  • Ranch Potatoes

Day Zero Project Update: Weeks 115-134

Instead of daily posts, I thought it would be a lot easier for me and you if I did weekly update posts.  These will track my progress each week.  I will highlight what I’ve done, what I want to do, and any interesting tidbits.  Sometimes I’ll add pictures and/or links.  Hopefully these posts will keep me accountable to me list…

What I Did

8. Have a Pixar marathon -- As part of my IMDB movie month, I watched a ton of Pixar movies including their two new ones: Monsters University and Brave.

12. See all of IMDB’s Top 250 movies  (61/250)

  • 68. Back to the Future -- A favorite of the boys.  We rewatched it over Christmas break.
  • 34. Dr. Strangelove -- Another Christmas break catch on tv.  We had to introduce my step-dad to this classic.
  • 240. Ip Man -- Somehow I just didn't record that we watched this last summer, but we did.  So, I'm adding it to the list.
  • 215. The Social Network -- Watched it, but was fairly disappointed.
  • 216. The Truman Show -- J and I randomly watched this before Christmas.
  • 81. Singin' in the Rain
  • 163. Groundhog Day
  • 23. Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • 214. In Bruges -- Watch this before Christmas, totally forgot to add it.  Really enjoyed the movie, although it wasn't what I thought it was going to be...
  • 231. Pirates of the Caribbean
  • 126. The Lion King
  • 136. Toy Story
  • 245. Monsters Inc
  • 46. Spirited Away
  • 212. The Incredibles
  • 71. The Prestige
  • 241. A Beautiful Mind
  • 189. Avatar
  • 160. District 9
  • 170. Finding Nemo
  • 137. Cool Hand Luke
  • 133. The Big Lebowski
  • 125. Jaws
  • 103. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
  • 143. Donnie Darko
  • 88. Gladiator
  • 37. Toy Story 3
  • 171. The Terminator
  • 56. The Departed
  • 41. Terminator 2
  • 186. Good Will Hunting
  • 19. Casablanca
  • 90. Braveheart

24. Keep a journal for this project

37. Pass 250,000 pages read for my 1,000,000 pages challenge (171,786/250,000)

82. Do a 3-5 km walk -- I routinely walk 6 miles at Shoreline on Mondays.  I'd say that this fulfills my goal.

Overall Progress
