October Month of Cards Week 3 - Part 2 (Butterfly Edition)

For October's big crafting goal, I am attempting to make a different designed card everyday.  Instead of flooding everyone's feed with tons of posts, I am just going to do a weekly wrap-up post with my cards. I went a little crazy with my butterfly stamps and punches.  So I thought a separate post was in order...

Day #17

A simple one of stamping creates a striking visual.

  • Stamps: Papillon Potpurri
  • Inks: Chocolate Chip, Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Pacific Point, Rich Razzleberry
  • Cardstock: Whisper White; Kraft
  • Accessories:
  • Tools:

Day #18

I grabbed a ton of random scraps and went to town punching butterflies.  It might be hard to see, but the butterflies are two layers.  They definitely pop in person.

  • Stamps: Petite Pairs
  • Inks: Pacific Point; Melon Mambo
  • Cardstock: Whisper White; Kraft; random scraps
  • Accessories:
  • Tools: Elegant Butterfly Punch; Bitty Butterfly Punch

Day #19

I wanted to use my butterfly punches again, but in a different way.  The colored paper all have a subtle design to them. Layering the butterflies helped to change the design just enough to give this card it's own day.

  • Stamps: A Word for You
  • Inks: Chocolate Chip
  • Cardstock: Kraft; Very Vanilla; random scraps
  • Accessories: Brights candy dots; Gold Chevron Washi Tape (not SU)
  • Tools: Elegant Butterfly Punch; Hexagon Punch (banner ends)

Comfort Cafe DSP Purge

Another retired DSP pack down...  I'm really loving this set of cards.

Card #1

Card Inspiration from Stampin' Connection

My version

I love the simple blue and cream combo.  Very pretty together!

  • Stamps: Papillon Potpurri; Sweet Essentials (retired)
  • Inks: Midnight Muse (retired)
  • Cardstock: Midnight Muse (retired); Very Vanilla; Comfort Cafe DSP (retired)
  • Accessories:
  • Tools: Labels Framelits (Spellbinders)

Card #2

Card Inspiration from North Shore Stamper

My version

I made two variations because I didn't have enough Midnight Muse Dahlias for both cards.  I actually pulled these little heart wood veneers from my Take Ten PL kit.  Perfect finishing touch.

  • Stamps: Sweet Essentials (retired)
  • Inks: Early Espresso
  • Cardstock: Summer Starfruit (retired); Midnight Muse (retired); Very Vanilla; Comfort Cafe (retired)
  • Accessories: 2012-2014 In Color Dahlias; heart wood veneers
  • Tools: 1 1/4" Circle Punch; 1 3/8" Circle Punch

Card #3

Card Inspiration from DO Stamping with Dawn

My version

Simple yet lovely.  I realize that my favorite cards are usually pretty simplistic.  At the last minute, I added the wood veneers for that extra little something.

  • Stamps: Wacky Wishes (retired)
  • Inks: Midnight Muse (retired)
  • Cardstock: Brown (Michael's); Very Vanilla; Comfort Cafe (retired)
  • Accessories: Brown ribbon (Joann's); bird and feather wood veneer
  • Tools:

Card #4

Card Inspiration from Card Creations by Beth

My version

This card looks much better in person.  The embossed Midnight Muse piece really pops and the dahlia adds a little extra touch.

  • Stamps: Vintage Verses (retired)
  • Inks: Midnight Muse (retired)
  • Cardstock: Brown (Michael's); Midnight Muse (retired); Comfort Cafe (retired); Very Vanilla
  • Accessories: 2012-2014 In Color Dahlias
  • Tools:

Card #5

Card Inspiration from Stampin' Pretty

My version

This card is so bright and cheery!  I don't have the ovals framelits (must put on wish list), so I substituted my new Starburst Framelits.  And I don't have the same ornament stamp and punch, but I do have the old retired ones.  Still works!

  • Stamps: Delightful Decorations (retired); Sweet Essentials (retired)
  • Inks: Midnight Muse (retired)
  • Cardstock: Very Vanilla; Midnight Muse (retired); Summer Starfruit (retired); Comfort Cafe DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: 2012-2014 In Color Dahlias
  • Tools: Starburst Framelits

Card #6

Card Inspiration from Northwest Stamper

My version

This card really isn't my personal style, but it's pretty.  I got the new hostess set I LIke You because watercolor images are so popular right now.  This is the first time that I used it and I actually like it!

  • Stamps: I Like You; A Word for You (retired)
  • Inks: Really Rust (retired); Early Espresso
  • Cardstock: Cajun Craze; Early Espresso; Very Vanilla; Comfort Cafe DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: wood veneers
  • Tools: Hexagon Punch (banner end)

Card #7

Card Inspiration from My Creative Corner

My version

Simple layering of coordinating DSP makes for a striking card.

  • Stamps: Sweet Essentials (retired)
  • Inks: Early Espresso
  • Cardstock: Cajun Craze; Very Vanilla; Comfort Cafe DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: brown ribbon (Michael's)
  • Tools:

Card #8

Card Inspiration from Dawn's Stamping Thoughts

My version

Another card that just isn't my style, but it turned out okay.  I like the contrasting paper and butterflies.

  • Stamps: Vintage Verses (retired)
  • Inks: Early Espresso
  • Cardstock: Cajun Craze; Very Vanilla; Comfort Cafe DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: 7/8" Natural Cotton Ribbon
  • Tools: Elegant Butterfly Punch; Artisan Label Punch

Card #9

Card Inspiration from Pretty Impact

My version

I think this card is my favorite of the entire bunch.  I love the simplistic shapes and lots of texture.  For me, the switch to the yellow cardstock for the sentiment banner really makes the card pop!

  • Stamps: A Word for You (retired)
  • Inks: Midnight Muse (retired)
  • Cardstock: Brown (Michael's); Midnight Muse (retired); Summer Starfruit (retired); Comfort Cafe DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: wood veneers
  • Tools: Hexagon Punch (banner end); Corner Rounder Punch

Card #10

Card Inspiration from WeeBeeStampin4Fun

My version

Turns out I don't have Cajun Craze ink in either a marker or an ink pad.  I dug through my stash and found a Really Rust marker from a few years back.  It' snot the same color, but I think it coordinates nicely with the Cajun Craze card stock.

  • Stamps: Vintage Verses (retired): Mixed Bunch
  • Inks: Really Rust (retired); Early Espresso
  • Cardstock: Cajun Craze; Very Vanilla; Early Espresso; Comfort Cafe DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: Gold brads
  • Tools: Hexagon Punch (banner end); Blossom Punch; 1" Circle Punch; Lacy Brocade Embossing Folder

Paisley Petals DSP Purge

Another attempt to get rid of my retired DSP.  This post's pack comes from a few years back.  I don't remember how old Paisley Petals is, but I do know that it's been sitting in my DSP box for at least a year.  After making the cards featured, I had a few scraps and some full sheets leftover.  I ended up putting the full sheets up for grabs to other crafting friends.  They kindly took them away from me.  One more pack down.

Card #1

Card Inspiration from Stampin Sunshine

My version

Loved the inspiration card.  My version turned out okay, but not the best.  I really need different layered framelits.  I'm getting a bit sick of using my labels.

  • Stamps: Secret Garden (retired); Express Yourself (retired)
  • Inks: Old Olive; Night of Navy
  • Cardstock: Paisly Petals DSP (retired); Marina Mist (retired); Whisper White
  • Accessories: Random brown ribbon (non-SU)
  • Tools: Artisan Label Punch; 1 1/4" Circle Punch; Label Framelits (Spellbinders)

Card #2

Card Inspiration from Moxie Fab World

My version

Very cute inspiration card.  Mine is a bit plain, but much nicer in person.

  • Stamps: Express Yourself (retired)
  • Inks: Chocolate Chip
  • Cardstock: Cajun Craze; Paisley Petals DSP (retired); Regals DSP
  • Accessories: Silver dots; Rhinestones; Old Olive button (retired)
  • Tools: Elegant Butterfly Punch; Hexagon Punch (banner ends)

Card #3

Card Inspiration from Creative Crafts by Lynn

My version

I rarely make no sentiment cards, but this one has so much going on that it seemed appropriate.  I love the layering...

  • Stamps: Papillon Potpurri
  • Inks: Old Olive
  • Cardstock: Old Olive; Baked Brown Sugar; Paisley Petals DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: Silver dots
  • Tools: Elegant Butterfly Punch

My version

Simple yet striking.  I love the pattern play here.

  • Stamps: Best of Greetings (retired)
  • Inks: Night of Navy
  • Cardstock: Paisley Petals (retired); Night of Navy; Regals DSP
  • Accessories:
  • Tools: Artisan Label Punch; Scallop Edge Punch

Card #5

Card Inspiration from Handmade by Michelle

My version

I made this card, but something just seemed off...  Then I added the ribbon and everything worked so much better.

  • Stamps: Work of Art; Morning Meadow (retired)
  • Inks: Night of Navy; Old Olive
  • Cardstock: Night of Navy; Whisper White; Paisley Petals DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: Baked Brown Sugar Ruffled Stretch Trim (retired)

  • Cardstock: Baja Breeze (retired); Marina Mist (retired); Paisley Petals DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: Rhinestones

Not my favorite card, but interesting visual draw.

  • Accessories: Rhinestones
  • Tools: 1" Circle Punch

Card #8

Card Inspiration from ...Confessions of a Stamping Addict

My version

I didn't think I would like this card in the end, but something pulls me in.  I'm loving the added butterfly on the side.

  • Stamps: Sweet Essentials (retired)
  • Inks: Old Olive
  • Cardstock: Old Olive; Whisper White; Paisley Petals DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: Old Olive buttons (retired)
  • Tools: Bitty Butterfly Punch; Hexagon Punch (banner ends); Blossom Punch; Lacy Brocade Embossing Folder; Patterned scissors

Card #9

Card Inspiration from Paper Suite

My version

I played with the hexagon punch to ultimately create 5 different cards.  My favorite is the all over hexagon card.  Very striking!

  • Stamps: Best of Greetings (retired); Hip Notes
  • Inks: Night of Navy
  • Cardstock: Marina Mist (retired); Whisper White; Paisley Petals DSP (retired)

Archives: Cards #31

Originally published on February 16th, 2014

I joined a Project Life Swaps group on FB and signed up to participate in three swaps (all for February!).  The idea is that you create PL cards based off of a theme, send them to the organizer, and she sends you cards from others.  I went a little overboard, creating more than I needed.  So, I decided to make some of the extras RAKs for my other PL group on FB.  Now I just need to get to the post office sometime tomorrow to send these packets of happiness out.

Archives: Cards #21

Monday was stamp club.  We made three cards and a 3d project.  The extra card (on brown cardstock) was my version of our homework.  I particularly loved the whale card.  I don't plan on buying the whale clearlit, but I love the play of circles.  I'm debating about whether or not to get the banner framelits next order.  I didn't like the coordinating stamp set, but the framelits are cute.

On Saturday I acquired a ton of new card supplies.  I had to try them out, so I made 10 cards, 5 color/designs with 2 options.  Some of these are sticking around until April stamp club as they are my interpretation of our homework.  I'm really loved the blue vine embossed cards with the polka dot flowers.  The colors look really nice together.

Shopping Scores: I was hostess this month as stamp club.  I bought my $50 of products to get the Sale-a-bration gift.  With everyone's combined total, I earned $50 of free products. Holy cow!  After searching through the catalog, I finally narrowed it down to a few great finds.  Our order arrived on Friday.  My scores: Four Seasons stamp set (hostess), Sweet Essentials stamp set (hostess), Wacky Wishes stamp set (hostess), Stacks of Wishes stamp set (hostess), 2011-2013 In Color Markers set, Secret Garden Bundle (framelits and stamp set), Glimmer paper (hostess), Vine embossing folder (sale-a-bration), Perfect Plum Ink pad.

A crafting friend clued me into the big clearance sale as a local craft store.  She picked me up early Saturday morning so we could get there before the rush. Tables upon tables of new and used card making and scrapbooking supplies.  People can sell their supplies on consignment.  We dove in, but the crowd was intense and the aisles small.  After about 1/3 of the way through the tables, we decided to call it quits.  But I did find some awesome supplies: 3 stamps sets from Stampin Up, 1 stamp set (manufacturing unknown), 1 double sided circle stamp, 1 square punch, 3 Stampin Up ink pads (basic gray, real red, and tangerine tango), 100 sheets of various paper ($5!), and 1 mini scrap pad ($0.50).  Such a great shopping trip!

I had a fun card class on Monday using some products that I actually own.

At class, I received my February Stampin' Up order.  So lots of fun new toys to play with.  I got inspired...  Lots of butterflies.  Using my new stamps and embossing folders.  And a couple of birthday cards for the boys.

Somehow I only made one card this week.  Just one!  But I did use some of my new products. I love my new butterfly stamps and punch.  This is the small one, I have yet to play with the larger butterfly stamps.  And I got to use my new Sale-a-Bration stamps ("Oh happy day" and flowers)  I love the simplicity of this card.  I even like the pastels (not usually a fan).  Hopefully next week, I will be more inspired for crafting.

I went a bit crazy this week and crafted a ton of cards.  Instead of cluttering up this post, I made a separate post yesterday to show off my creations.  As to general crafting, we had our first Stampin' Up Club meeting this past Monday.  It's Sale-a-Bration, so of course I had to spend $50 to get my free product.  Here are my goodies:

  • Versamark (for my new embossing heat tool)
  • Pewter embossing powder
  • Small butterfly punch (coordinates with both stamp sets
  • Papillion Potpourri
  • Bloomin Marvelous (Sale-a-Bration pick)
  • Print Poetry DSP (lots of fun designs)

And of course I had some cute cards to show from Stamp Club and Card Class.
