Sea Street Card

Today's card features on of my favorite carry-over stamps: Sea Street. I love this happy little octopus and the extra little stamps. I used this card as part of July's stamp club projects. Everyone really loved this card. I can be for a boy or girl and used for many different occasions. It's the perfect all-around card!

SSINKCC18: Under the Sea

One of my resolutions for the new was to do more card challenges. It's now February 7th and I haven't done a single one. Shame on me!  Thankfully our great friend sent a little challenge out to our demo group to participate this week. I came home from class this morning and knocked this card in 15 minutes!

Orange and turquoise (Tangelo Twist and Coastal Cabana) is not my favorite color combo. Mainly because I am not a huge fan of orange. But that's why the challenge is so great. It made me reevaluate my aversion to certain colors. I own them, why don't I use them more often.

After looking at the colors, I immediately grabbed for my Sea Street stamp set. I envisioned something nautical but in non-nautical colors. Although now the orange is reminding me of life vests... Anyway I grabbed the set, but realized that I needed more texture, more layers, but I didn't want to actually add a ton more paper. Enter the Work of Art stamp. The chevron matched almost perfectly with my piece of Fresh Prints DSP (retired). From there I added the starfish, octopus, and greeting. And topped the card off with a few Bermuda Bay sequins taken off the thread. I just may use this color combo again sometime...

Simple Fresh Prints

The other day I pulled out my almost untouched Fresh Prints DSP stack.  It's retired, but I love the colors and patterns so much.  I did a quick peek at my Pinterest boards and pulled out the below card for inspiration.

Card #1

Card Inspiration from Stampin' on the Fly

My version

Really I just changed up the patterns the style of ribbon and sentiment.  I ended up really loving this simple and easy card with its great use of DSP.

  • Stamps: I Like You
  • Inks: Real Red
  • Cardstock: Kraft; Fresh Prints DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: Brights Candy Dots; Coastal Cabana Ruffled Stretch Trim (retired)
  • Tools: Pansy Punch

Card #2

Just a slight pattern change to make a completely different card.

  • Stamps: I Like You
  • Inks: Real Red
  • Cardstock: Kraft; Fresh Prints DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: Metallic jewels (non-SU); Coastal Cabana Ruffled Stretch Trim (retired)

Fresh Prints Patterns

I pulled out my new I Like You hostess stamp set with the intention of creating a great background pattern for a card. I started working and things took a slightly different turn.

Card Inspiration from Cards and Scrapping

I wanted to recreate the inspiration card, but then my hands went in a slightly different direction.  I did use the I Like You stamps to create a background pattern for the card.  But I added a lot more layers and a different sentiment style.  Overall this card looks much better in person.  You can actually see the layers in person.  The photo looks too flat.  But I promise this does look nice.

  • Stamps: I Like You; Hello There
  • Inks: Crumb Cake, Real Red, Coastal Cabana
  • Cardstock: Kraft; Whisper White; Fresh Prints DSP (retired)
  • Accessories: Coastal Cabana Ruffled Trim Ribbon (retured)
  • Tools: Starburst Framelits; 1 1/4" Circle Punch

Sea Street Classic Nautical

Last Friday I went to our (area demos) monthly crafting night and crafted up a storm.  I ended up only making 6 cards, but I'm really loving those six cards.  Today I'm sharing two card featuring the Sea Street Stamp Set in classic nautical colors.

Card #1

Card Inspiration from Michele Reynolds at Inspiration Ink

My version

I ended up CASEing this one directly.  I loved her design so much, I wanted a card just like it.  I did change the DSP paper as I don't have the Maritime DSP (must rectify with next order!).  And I didn't have her "Happy Day" stamp, so I just wrote "Hi" on my little flag.  Still turned out really nice!

  • Stamps: Sea Street
  • Inks: Night of Navy; Real Red; Coastal Cabana
  • Cardstock: Real Red; Night of Navy; Coastal Cabana; Whisper White; Fresh Prints DSP (retired)
  • Accessories:
  • Tools: Journaling Pen; Banner Punch

Card #2

The second card was just me playing around with the Fresh Prints DSP stack (still have so much leftover!) and seeing what I could pair with the same classic nautical colors.  I used one of the circle framelits but thought it looked too plain by itself.  Add a starburst framelit layer in a red pattern and suddenly the card is complete!

  • Stamps: Sea Street; I Like You
  • Inks: Night of Navy; Real Red; Coastal Cabana
  • Cardstock: Real Red; Night of Navy; Coastal Cabana; Whisper White; Fresh Prints DSP (retired)
  • Accessories:
  • Tools: Circle Framelits; Starburst Framelits

CCMC310: Coastal Cabana, Real Red, and Night of Navy

Today's card came from a color inspiration from Create with Connie and Mary.  I realized that my SU Fresh Prints Stack (sadly retired) had two of those colors in the mix.  Score!  I have almost that entire pad left unused so it's nice to break it out once in awhile.

Color Inspiration

My version

Somehow this card ended up being very nautical and I absolutely love it!  I never realized how the Sea Street and Perfect Pennants stamp sets match perfectly for me.  I love that little octopus so much!  After pulling out my ink colors, I started grabbing papers and tools and went to town.  This process of making this card was very organic.  I didn't think too much and yet I'm pleased at how the colors and patterns all flow together.

  • Stamps: Sea Street, Perfect Pennants
  • Inks: Night of Navy
  • Cardstock: Real Red; Fresh Prints DSP (retired), Whisper White

Archives: Cards #29

Originally published on January 19th, 2014 Before getting to the actual crafting, I wasn't able to get my SU order for December before leaving for Indiana.  I completely forget what I even ordered.  I was able to collect it at January stamp club.  Oh yeah, and December was my hostess month.  Lots and lots of goodies.

At stamp club, we made some cute cards.  It was also the start of our new 6 month round.  We drew hostess months and I got February.  Just in time for Sale-a-bration.  Now what should I order?

On the PL front, I finally got everything organized to put together the weekly spreads for the holidays.  I also got some great ideas from my Studio Calico class I joined for January.  Can't wait to put some of them into my spreads.  And I decided to do a monthly wrap-up page with my books read, life goals and progress, and photo a day pics.  I didn't want to have to include every photo a day pic, so I thought to combine some of my features into a monthly wrap up page.  Each month has one side (two months per page protector) using design F.  I have room for eight photo a day choice pics.  I went through and picked title, books read, and life goals inserts for each month.  I tried to play with some color schemes.  I plan on adding embellishments as I do the months.  In the meantime, here's a sneak peek of January's page:

Shopping Scores: Lots of new things!  I picked up some Project Life supplies online: G and H page protectors (for inserts), Seasons Mini Kit (had Holiday, wanted general seasons), a WRMK 3x4 and 4x6 kit (Tangerine), and some random cards from a fellow PLer (from Honey and Kraft kits).  And then I went to Michael's for snail and ended up buying a corner rounder punch (mine is horrid!) and a 2in circle punch.
