Joining in again this year!
2017 Mount TBR Reading Challenge

From My Reader's Block:
Pike's Peak: Read 12 books from your TBR pile/s Mount Blanc: Read 24 books from your TBR pile/s Mt. Vancouver: Read 36 books from your TBR pile/s Mt. Ararat: Read 48 books from your TBR piles/s Mt. Kilimanjaro: Read 60 books from your TBR pile/s El Toro: Read 75 books from your TBR pile/s Mt. Everest: Read 100 books from your TBR pile/s Mount Olympus (Mars): Read 150+ books from your TBR pile/s
And the rules: *Once you choose your challenge level, you are locked in for at least that many books. If you find that you're on a mountain-climbing roll and want to tackle a taller mountain, then you are certainly welcome to upgrade. All books counted for lower mountains carry over towards the new peak.
*Challenge runs from January 1 to December 31, 2017.
*You may sign up anytime from now until November 1st, 2017.
*Books must be owned by you prior to January 1, 2017. No library books.
*Rereads may count only in the following circumstances: If you did not own the book when you read it long ago and far away [based on your age, you can decide what that might mean--definitely not within the last five years...my arbitrary pick for a limit] and you bought the book pre-January 1, 2017 intending to reread it now that it's your very own. [To clarify--the intention is to reduce the stack of books that you have bought for yourself or received as presents {birthday, Christmas, "just because," etc.}. Audiobooks and E-books may count if they are yours and they are one of your primary sources of backlogged books.]
*You may count any "currently reading" book that you begin prior to January 1--provided that you had 50% or more of the book left to finish when January 1 rolled around. I will trust you all on that.
*You may count "Did Not Finish" books provided they meet your own standard for such things, you do not plan to ever finish it, and you move it off your mountain [give it away, sell it, etc. OR remove it from your e-resources]. For example, my personal rule (unless it's a very short book) is to give a book at least 100 pages. If I decide I just can't finish it and won't ever, then off the mountain it goes and I count it as a victory--the stack is smaller!
*Books may be used to count for other challenges as well.
*Feel free to submit your list in advance (as incentive to really get those books taken care of) or to tally them as you climb.
*There will be quarterly check-ins and prize drawings!
*A blog and reviews are not necessary to participate. If you have a blog, then please post a challenge sign up and link THAT post (not your home page) into the linky below. Non-bloggers, please leave a comment declaring your challenge level--OR, if you are a member of Goodreads, I will once again put together a group for the challenge there. Feel free to sign up HERE if that's where you want to participate. At the beginning of the year, I will update the sidebar link called Mount TBR Review Headquarters for current reviews and progress updates.
I need to move those books off my shelf! I'm going to sign up for the Mount Kilimanjaro level of 60 books.
January 2017 Life Goals
Let’s check in on December’s goals and my progress.
- Participate in The Hook on Momma Strong — Fail
- Read 1500 pages — Fail, but so close. I ended up only reading 1421 pages for December.
- Prep and send cards for December -- Success!

January's Goals:
- New Movie Month -- I like to start my year off with some new-to-me movies. Hoping to watch 31 movies this month.
- Daily MommaStrong/Walk -- Need to get back on the horse for this one...
- Read 1500 pages -- Hoping to kick off 2017 reading.
- Implement a grocery budget and meal plan -- I have a new plan in place to lower our grocery budget. Let's see if I can do it this month.
- Project 365: Tobe -- As part of my membership on the Awesome Ladies Project Practice Team, I want to memory plan my life this year. Less kids, more Tobe highlighted.
- Research vehicle options -- We need a vehicle to fit all four kiddos. I have a few options in mind, but need to dive into and research a bit more before making a decision.
2017 Goals and Resolutions
It’s the New Year. Time for my yearly goals and resolutions… I’ve cut back a bit because I have so many other projects, goals, and resolutions heading into 2017.
Blog and Reading Resolutions:
- Read 35,000 pages
- Read 100 books
- Reevaluate my personal blog
- Keep posting on my craft blog MWFS
- Clear off at least one shelf of unread books
Life Resolutions:
- Cut our good budget dramatically and stick to it
- Continue with MommaStrong - losing weight, gaining strength
- Participate in SSINK Design Team
- Participate in the Awesome Ladies Project Design Team
Revisiting 2016’s goals and resolutions:
- Focus on my Happiness Project — OLW just didn’t work for me, so I’m trying this project instead. And I have an accountability group to help me stay on track.
- Focus on freezer meals and cutting our food budget — It’s gotten out of control. I really want to spend less money on food.
- Read 30,00 pages — I’m going for it again this year!
- Read 100 books — I’m excited to up my goal this year.
- Finish at least 75% of my reading challenges — i’ve cut back on the number of challenges for the year, so I think I just might be able to attain this goal.
- Create a weekly schedule and stick to it for all three of the blogs

Overall Thoughts/Reflections/Musings/Ideas
2016 was a decent year of reading. I finished a couple of series, knocked a few books off my perpetual lists, and enjoyed some 5 star reads. Predictably, my reading pace slowed considerably after Quentin arrived at the end of September. But hopefully I can bring my reading back up to at least 30 minutes a day in 2017.

They were six normal teenagers linked only by their wealthy parents' annual business meeting...until a chance discovery revealed the shocking truth: their parents are the secret criminal society known as the Pride! For years, the Pride controlled all criminal activity in Los Angeles, ruling the city with an iron fist...and now, with their true natures exposed, the Pride will take any measures necessary to protect their organization - even if it means taking out their own children! Now on the run from their villainous parents, Nico, Chase, Karolina, Gertrude, Molly and Alex have only each other to rely on.
Picked this volume up on a whim. I love it when I pick winners and this definitely is. Another comic that takes the well-known narrative and turns it on its head. Of course we all the know the first twist on the story, but the really interesting part is the dynamic between the main characters. I think Nico was my favorite of the six, but all had a very interesting path through the volume. I think I might just pick up the second volume.

Revival Vol. 3
Title: Revival Volume 3: A Faraway Place
Author: Tim Seeley
Publisher: Image 2014
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 128
Rating: 5/5 stars
Reading Challenges: Graphic Novel
For one day in rural central Wisconsin, the dead came back to life. Now the living and the recently returned struggle to maintain a sense of normalcy amidst political and religious conflicts. Officer Dana Cypress is hot on the trail of a man she believes may have murdered her sister Em, but Em herself is on a quest through the snowy woods to find the strange glowing creature that haunts a child.
Another interesting volume of Revival. This section answered a few questions, but mostly it asked more. I'm getting deeper and deeper into the mystery of Em's murder and the Revivers. I can't wait to see what happens next...
