Music Monday -- 101 Faves Fun Edition

As part of my ongoing Day Zero Project, I've made a list of my favorite 101 songs of all time.  To help cut down on the possibilities, I took songs only from my iTunes account.  Each edition will include ~5 songs with a theme.  Enjoy! This week is all about the fun songs.  Enjoy these wacky yet irresistible songs.

Barenaked Ladies "Alcohol" -- Amazing love song to alcohol (or is it?).  We played this one almost every day going to school my junior and senior year of high school.

Five Iron Frenzy "Oh Canada" -- Another high school car favorite.  My friend Beth always loved this one. Plus the live version is so much better!

Kind of crappy live video version

Cake "Short Skirt Long Jacket"-- This is my jam!  It's even my ringtone on J's phone.  Plus every episode of Chuck, I would start singing the song even though it's instrumental.  It's just awesome!

Cowboy Mouth "Love of My Life" -- Another great sing along (or is it scream along?)

Music Monday -- Favorite Christmas Carols Part 1

It's December.  Time to pull out the holiday music.  I thought I would share my all-time favorite Christmas carols.  I've even pinpointed my favorite versions of my favorite carols.  Part 1 of 3.

"White Christmas" by Bing Crosby -- The classic song sung by the classic singer.  While I prefer Holiday Inn over White Christmas, I prefer this song.

"Blue Christmas" by Elvis -- Another classic song by a classic singer.  There are many other versions of Blue Christmas, but I always go back to Elvis.

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings"  by Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan -- A fun uptempo mash-up for you.  This is so upbeat I can't help but feel better after listening.

"The Chanukah Song" by Adam Sandler -- A funny song to enjoy.

"Little Drummer Boy" by Jars of Clay -- Another classic song done in a more modern version.

Music Monday -- 1998

As part of my ongoing celebration for my 30th birthday, I am highlighting some popular songs from throughout my years.  Songs were picked based off of a list of Grammy award winners and Billboard Top 100.  Then, I chose my favorites to highlight.

Year: 1998

Book: Readings on Shakespeare's The Histories

Music Selections:

  1.  The Offspring "Americana" -- I loved The Offpsring, all the old stuff.  The new stuff just doesn't have the same fun.  I think this was their last record that liked.  And I saw them in concert either 2000 or 2001.  Great times.
  2. Goo Goo Dolls "Iris" -- One of my all time favorite songs.  I've recently caught this song on Lithium multiple times.  Can't help but stop and sing along.
  3. Matchbox Twenty "3 am" -- Another high school favorite of mine.  I hear they have a new song.  Haven't heard it yet, but I'm sure it won't compete with 3 am.
  4. Savage Garden "Truly Madly Deeply" -- A gooey love song.
  5. Barenaked Ladies "One Week" -- I still can't sing the entire song, but I love it anyway.  Plus, it was on the soundtrack for 10 Things I Hate About You, which is one of my favorite high school era movies.

Music Monday - Barenaked Ladies "If I Had a $1,000,000"

This is one of those songs that I just always come back to.  I love the funness of the Barenaked Ladies.   I love the silly.  I love the subtle serious message.  It's just great.  As I was driving through Iowa (man, it's a boring drive through Iowa), this song popped up on my iPod giant shuffle.  And it made me happy.  I just wanted to listen to read over and over again.

Lyrics:

If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000) I'd buy you a house (I would buy you a house) If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000) I'd buy you furniture for your house (Maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman) If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000) I'd buy you a K-Car (a nice Reliant automobile) If I Had $1000000 I'd buy your love.

If I Had $1000000 I'd build a tree fort in our yard. If I Had $1000000 You could help, it wouldn't be that hard. If I Had $1000000 Maybe we could put put a little tiny fridge in there somewhere ([Talking:] We could just go up there and hang out. Like open the fridge and stuff, and there'd be foods laid out for us With little pre-wrapped sausages and things. Mmmmm. They have pre-wrapped sausages but they don't have pre-wrapped bacon. Well can you blame them. Yeah)

If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000) I'd buy you a fur coat (but not a real fur coat that's cruel) If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000)I'd buy you an exotic pet (Like a llama or an emu) If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000) I'd buy you John Merrick's remains (All them crazy elephant bones) If I Had $1000000 I'd buy your love

If I Had $1000000 We wouldn't have to walk to the store If I Had $1000000 We'd take a limousine 'cause it costs more If I Had $1000000 We wouldn't have to eat Kraft Dinner. (But we would eat Kraft Dinner. Of course we would, we'd just eat more. And buy really expensive ketchup with it. That's right, all the fanciest Dijon Ketchup. Mmmmmm.)

If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000) I'd buy you a green dress (but not a real green dress, that's cruel) If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000)I'd buy you some art (a Picasso or a Garfunkel) If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000) I'd buy you a monkey (haven't you always wanted a monkey?) If I Had $1000000 I'd buy your love

If I Had $1000000, If I Had $1000000 If I Had $1000000, If I Had $1000000 I'd be rich.

Enjoy some Barenaked Ladies fun! Check out Weird Al playing with them! Epic!
