Use Your Scraps

For May I am featuring a class called Use Your Scraps. We all have a ton of scrap pieces of paper lying around. What to do with them? Here are three ideas for you:

Card #1 Long Banners

A simple way to use scraps is to make them into various length banners. For this card, I took some random pieces of Moonlight DSP and cut them into random lengths. The banners fill most of the card. Adding a punched sentiment and some candy dots completes the look.

  • Stamps: Hello There
  • Inks: Lost Lagoon
  • Cardstock: Basic Gray; Moonlight DSP
  • Accessories: Brights Candy Dots
  • Tools: Scallop Punch; Hexagon Punch (banner ends)

Card #2 Hexagon Punch

The second card features my favorite scrap technique: hexagons. I love the repeat of patterns and colors in this card. A simple sentiment finishes the card.

  • Stamps: Label Love
  • Inks: Midnight Muse (retired)
  • Cardstock: Gumball Green (retired); Summer Starfruit (retired); Print Poetry DSP (retired)
  • Accessories:
  • Tools: Artisan Label Punch; Hexagon Punch (banner ends)

Card #3 Short Banners

Lastly, I have a cute rainbow colored card featuring short banners. I love the play of patterns on this one.

  • Stamps: Petite Pairs
  • Inks: Rich Razzleberry
  • Cardstock: Rich Razzleberry; Random scraps
  • Accessories: Gumball Green Ribbon (retired)
  • Tools: Banner Punch; 1" Circle Punch; 1 1/4" Circle Punch; Decorative Dots Embossing Folder

Retiring Series: Petite Pairs and Sweet Taffy

The new catalog is coming... But before we get there, I'm highlighting some of my favorite retiring stamp sets and retiring DSP. How can Petite Petals be retiring? This is such a great collection of simple sentiments. I will continue to use it even after being retiring! I did a simple collection of various sheets from the Sweet Taffy collection. I love the bright colors in this collection! So sad to see it go, but I've still got a few small pieces left.

  • Stamps: Petite Pairs
  • Inks: Bermuda Bay
  • Cardstock: Bermuda Bay; Sweet Taffy

Retiring Series: Love Who You Are and Confetti Celebration

The new catalog is coming... But before we get there, I'm highlighting some of my favorite retiring stamp sets and retiring DSP. Today's selection is Love Who You Are and Confetti Celebration DSP. I love the geometric shapes in both of these products. Plus the paper uses some great bright colors: Strawberry Slush! Bermuda Bay! Taking my cues from the geometric pattern, I kept the pieces of this card very sharp. For the stamp, I colored different sections using my go-to markers. I added some washi tape for more visual interest and finished the card with a few candy dots.

  • Stamps: Love Who You Are
  • Inks: Strawberry Slush; Tempting Turquoise; Pistachio Pudding; Tangelo Twist
  • Cardstock: Smoky Slate; Whisper White; Confetti Celebration DSP
  • Accessories: Neutrals Candy Dots; SU Washi Tape

Sunday Haul #13

I received two PL swaps back this week: food and currently. While I love making my own PL cards and doing the swaps, I'm just not using many of the cards. I think these will be my last swaps.

Herringbone Technique Card

I absolutely love this card technique! One of my May classes is going to be "Using Your Scraps" and I've been looking for some good designs. This design came from one of my favorite blogs for inspiration: Too Cool Stamping. I love all her designs.

I decided to make one card using the Lost Lagoon, Island Indigo, Mossy Meadow, and Pistachio Pudding side and one using the Strawberry Slush, Blushing Bride, and Daffodil Delight side of the All Abloom DSP stack. The end result is two very different cards with the same design. I'm loving them!

  • Stamps: Simply Wonderful
  • Inks: Strawberry Slush; Mossy Meadow
  • Cardstock: All Abloom DSP; Strawberry Slush; Blushing Bride; Daffodil Delight; Mossy Meadow; Lost Lagoon; Island Indigo; Whisper White
  • Accessories:
  • Tools: Ovals Framelits; Petite Petal Punch; Hexagon Punch (banner ends)

Project Life March 2015 Part 2

March -- 2nd half (Indiana) We spent the second half of March in Indiana visiting family. I was there for the twins' spring break, Easter with the family, and my friend's wedding. In fact, I hosted one of the bridal showers and the bachelorette party.

Page 6 features the few pics I took while hosting the bridal shower. I got some decent ones to add to my book. For embellishing, I added a lot of gold accents to the pink color scheme. Love the little bits of shine.

Pages 7-9 are all about the bacehlorette party. As I wasn't talking in front of people most of the time, I could actually take more pictures. Most are from the painting class we took. For page 7, I added bits of washi tape with everyone's name. Cute little labels!

The last page of March features some pics I took after we flew to Indiana but weren't wedding related. I am loving the Duck Time photo. The little flag sticker worked perfectly on that one!

Sunday Haul #12

I love coming home after a trip to a pile of fun packages. Some were Amazon pantry products, but a few amount were crafty finds! The first A Beautiful Mess Messy Box arrived the day after I flew out to Indiana. I decided to subscribe to their kit as I love ABM's overall look. They are huge fans of geometric shapes and black and white with splashes of color. I'll be looking at this in more detail on Thursday.

SU's free shipping week coincided with April's stamp club and an awesome weekly deal on the magnetic platform. I've been wanting to order one for some time, but kept finding other uses for my budget. I finally pulled the trigger and can't wait to use it especially with those tiny framelits!

I received my BOY PL swaps back. Cute cards! I'm sure most of these will make an appearance in Arthur's album and maybe even the twins' albums.

I took advantage of a Peachy Cheap grab bag offer. Looking at what I got, there are only a few things I don't think I'll use. Those are going into the door prize pile.

Finally I received my Paper Issues swag bag. I also love the little bits of random ephemera included. Now I need to sort this stuff into my various PL supply boxes.

My SU order from free shipping week finally came on Friday. Lots of goodies, but unfortunately a few things were backordered (four of the 2013-2015 in color reinkers).

  • Nordic Noel DSP (clearance rack)
  • Melon Mambo CS
  • Calypso Coral CS
  • Smoky Slate CS
  • Night of Navy CS
  • Rich Razzleberry CS
  • Festive Designer Kraft Paper Roll (clearance rack)
  • Hello Darling Stamp Set
  • 2013-2015 In Color Markers
  • Strawberry Slush reinker
  • Adhesive Remover
  • Lost Lagoon Taffeta Ribbon (clearance)
  • Daffodil Delight Ribbon
  • Stars Framelits
  • Season of Style Journaling Tags (clearance)

I received a fun little surprise package from my upline's upline because I kept up with my new year's goals for the first three months. She sent us some of her current favorite products.

  • Gold Foil Paper
  • Paper doilies
  • Something Borrowed Embellishments

My second Messy Box came this week. I'm saving both of them for next week when I really dive into them. I'm thinking using them to prep for Day in the Life spring and some greeting cards.

Another Thank You Set

I have too many scraps of pattern paper. Solution... make a set of fun thank you cards for my friend's wedding. She has gotten so many great gifts already, she needs a ton of thank you cards to send out. I took a giant pile of pattern paper and started punching out hexagons. After amassing a huge pile, I started do random patterns on pieces of white paper.

Some the cards ended up being almost monochromatic. Some were varied colors.

I ended up loving all the different variations of cards and I used a ton of scrap paper pieces. Plus, my friend now has a ton of thank you cards to use.
