2018 Winter's Respite Readthon

Winters Respite 2018.jpg

From Seasons of Reading:

This is the official sign up for the Winter's Respite Readathon! All our regular seasonal readathons are now a month long so Winter's Respite runs for the entire month of January. Woot! So, we start at 12:00 am on January 1 and end at 11:59 pm on January 31. Times are set for the central time zone so adjust your times accordingly (you can use the link to the time zone converter in the sidebar menu). Of course, like most readathons, the books read must be novels or novellas, adult or young adult are fine, and you can read children's books (as long as you do read some novels too). Note: Non-Fiction is also okay! You DO NOT have to participate the entire month. Join in when you can, start in the middle, end early...whatever works best for your schedule. As with all of my readathons, it will be an event of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away those ever looming TBR piles/shelves/libraries.

Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the sidebar menu. Any information you need about the readathon can be found there. Please do be sure to check the guidelines to make sure you're following along correctly. There are specific rules regarding signing up and wrapping up, especially in regards to the giveaway. Also, regarding the giveaway, I'll be again adding a Google form to capture names and email addresses so if you're interested in winning a prize (and you've met the sign up and wrap up criteria), I will ask you to fill in that form which will be located on the prize page. The form will now have a required field for you to enter the link to your wrap-up post.

As is typical, I will not be hosting any mini-challenges. However, if anyone else would like to host a mini-challenge or giveaway, you are more than welcome. I am also looking for prize donations so if anyone would like to contribute, let me know. Authors, this is a great way to promote your book! (Contact me using the contact form link in the sidebar menu).

Our hashtag is #WintersRespite Also, don't forget about our Facebook group. You can access via the link in the sidebar menu.

Bout of Books 21 is Coming!

Bout of Books

Just popping in to post that I'm intending to participate in the next Bout of Books readathon. I participated in almost every one from the beginning and I can't miss this one! I will be traveling back home to California on Wednesday of that week, but I hope to get a decent amount of reading in throughout. Not sure of my TBR yet, but it will probably include Arabian Nights and No  Time Like the Past.

FrightFall Readathon 2017 Ending Post

frightfall 2017.jpg

Pages Read: 244 (A Cast Off Coven)
Pages Read Total: 3606

Books Read: 1
Books Read Total: 12

Comments: I killed it this month! Usually readathons don't work well for me because of the unpredictability of my weeks. Stretching this one to a month helped me not get upset over a single day that included no reading. I more than made up for it other days.

Goals:

  • Read 10 books  √
  • Read at least 4 "scary" books √
  • Review all books read √

TBR Pile (my original scary reads for the month):

  • The Mummy by Anne Rice  √
  • Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson
  • Paper Valentine by Brenna Yovanoff √
  • The Dream Cycle of H.P. Lovecraft: Dreams of Terror and Death
  • The Gates by John Connolly √
  • 99 Coffins by David Wellington
  • The Devil in the Shape of a Woman by Carol Karlsen (in progress)
  • 8.4 by Peter Hernon √

Comments: After finishing the first half of The Mummy, I couldn't stop myself from plowing through to the end. So good! And I finished Hidden Figures a few days before tomorrow's book club discussion. Again, so good! And I sped through The Haunting of Hill House riveted to Jackson's horror. Finally I completed A Tea Reader collection of essays that I've working on all week and moved on to Reading People. Such a great reading week!

FrightFall Readathon 2017!

frightfall 2017.jpg

From Seasons of Reading:

Fall will be here before we know it, then right around the corner is October and you know what that means. It will be time for FrightFall! I'm so excited that we are now doing the whole month of October. What could be better than a month long readathon? Not much, in my humble opinion.

We start at 12:00am central time on October 1st and end at 11:59pm central time on October 31st. (There is now a handy link to a time zone converter in the menu above) I hope you're ready to get your scary on! Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the tab at the top of the blog. Any information you need about the readathon can be found there. Please do be sure to check the guidelines to make sure you're following along correctly. There are specific rules regarding sign up and wrap up, especially in regards to the giveaway. Also, regarding the giveaway, I'll be again adding a Google form to capture names and email addresses so if you're interested in winning a prize (you still must meet the sign up and wrap up criteria), I will ask you to fill in that form which will be located on the prize page.

Just remember...the one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read at least ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). Since we are doing a month long, I hope you will indulge the scary a bit more, but that is entirely up to you. It is all about the reading after all.

Our social media hashtag is #FrightFall and we have our outstanding Facebook group which has become quite the reading community (there is also an access tab in the menu).

I haven't been up on readathons lately, but this one looks like fun. I've done this particular readathon in the past, and making it a month long is really appealing to me. I tend to go through spurts of reading due to my unpredictable schedule. I'm busy pulling some "scary" reads from my giant TBR piles.

Bout of Books 20!!!!

It's almost here! I can't wait for the Bout of Books Readathon. I've participated in almost every single one of these and #20 is happening at just the right time for me. Summer's over in this house and the holiday craziness has yet to begin. We're in that nice lull period. So I'm ready to focus on reading some great books! Now I'm off to figure out my goals and my TBR pile. Wish me luck!

Pages Read Total: 287

Book Read Total: 2 2/3

Comments: I finished Yellow Brick War on Monday morning. I only had 73 pages left on Sunday night, but couldn't keep my eyes open to finish. No worry. We had a lazy Monday with some time in the morning for me to finish. I also finished the last bit of Big Little Lies. We're discussing at book club is on Sunday. Hoping to finish the tv series before then. I only have 3 episodes left. I'm almost finished with 50 Great American Places. Decent read although not a lot of new information for this history buff.

High Summer Readathon

From Seasons of Reading:

It's time to sign up for High Summer...and in case you haven't heard, I have a special treat this year (that is sure to become a tradition). During the last weekend of the readathon, we are having a 48 hour Christmas in July Readathon! Don't worry...you do not have to participate if you're not IN to Christmas, but if you are, this is for you. Also, you can even choose to read Christmas books during the entire High Summer Readathon. I'm flexible!

The official dates are July 17 through July 30, starting at 12:00am Monday the 17th, and ending at 11:59pm on Sunday, the 30th. That's central time (U.S.), but you can adjust your times according to your time zone. Of course, like most read-a-thons, the books read must be novels or novellas, adult or young adult are fine, non-fiction, and you can even read children's books too (as long as you do read some novels too). Also, Christmas books this time too!  You DO NOT have to participate the entire two weeks. Join in when you can, start in the middle, end early...whatever works best for your schedule. As with all of my readathons, it will be two weeks of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away our ever looming TBRs.

Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the tab at the top of the blog. Any information regarding rules for our readathons can be found there.

It's been awhile since I participated in a readathon. J will be away on a work trip during the readathon so I should have ample time to indulge in a bit of self-care.

Goals:

  • Read three books
  • Review all books read
  • Read at least 1 hour a day

TBR Pile:

  • Clockwork Princess
  • Clockwork Prince
  • Yellow Brick War (in progress)
  • The End of Oz
  • 50 Great American Places
  • Dead Feminists
  • The Kingdom of Ohio
  • Dearly, Departed
  • Big Little Lies (in progress)

2017 Spring Into Horror Readathon

From Seasons of Reading:

It's time to sign up for Spring Into Horror!

Remember, it's two weeks now...and at the tale end (the finale weekend) will also be Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon! Official dates are April 17 through 30, starting at 12am CDT Sunday and ending at 11:59pm CDT on Sunday the 30th. Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the menu at the top of the blog. Any information you need about the readathon can be found there. The hashtag for checking in on social media is #SpringHorrorRAT  You can also check-in and chat at our Facebook group (also can be accessed in the blog menu).

Just remember...the one main "rule" of Spring Into Horror is that you must read ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). The rest of the week...anything goes! Read more horror, or go in for less heart jolting fare. 😀

I missed A Winter's Respite Readathon back in January, but I'm all set for this one! I've got a few horror choices in my TBR pile:

  • Anno Dracula by Kim Newman
  • Mostly Void, Partially Stars: Welcome to Night Vale Volume 1 by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor
  • A Natural History of Hell by Jeffrey Ford

And I'm sure I'll throw in a few horror themed comics also...

Pages Read:  15 (The Colour of Magic)  +  21 (The Daily Show) +  295 (Just One Damned Thing After Another)

Pages Read Total: 1039

Books Read Total: 4

Comments: I didn't quite meet my page goal, but I did finish four books. I'm a little disappointed to not have finished Voyager, but other books keep distracting me. All in all, I'm going to call this readathon a success.

Goals:

  • Read 4 books/1200 pages √
  • Review all books read √
  • Finish Voyager

TBR:

  • Finish Buffering by Hannah Hart √
  • Finish The Bargain by Jane Ashford √
  • Finish Voyager by Diana Gabaldon - in progress
  • A Poisoned Season by Tasha Alexander
  • The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett - in progress
  • A Flaw in the Blood by Stephanie Barron √
  • The Daily Show: The Book by Chris Smith - in progress
  • Just One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor √
