Pages Read: 73 (Yellow Brick War) + 52 (Big Little Lies) + 162 (50 Great American Places)

Pages Read Total: 287

Book Read Total: 2 2/3

Comments: I finished Yellow Brick War on Monday morning. I only had 73 pages left on Sunday night, but couldn't keep my eyes open to finish. No worry. We had a lazy Monday with some time in the morning for me to finish. I also finished the last bit of Big Little Lies. We're discussing at book club is on Sunday. Hoping to finish the tv series before then. I only have 3 episodes left. I'm almost finished with 50 Great American Places. Decent read although not a lot of new information for this history buff.

High Summer Readathon

From Seasons of Reading:

It's time to sign up for High Summer...and in case you haven't heard, I have a special treat this year (that is sure to become a tradition). During the last weekend of the readathon, we are having a 48 hour Christmas in July Readathon! Don't worry...you do not have to participate if you're not IN to Christmas, but if you are, this is for you. Also, you can even choose to read Christmas books during the entire High Summer Readathon. I'm flexible!

The official dates are July 17 through July 30, starting at 12:00am Monday the 17th, and ending at 11:59pm on Sunday, the 30th. That's central time (U.S.), but you can adjust your times according to your time zone. Of course, like most read-a-thons, the books read must be novels or novellas, adult or young adult are fine, non-fiction, and you can even read children's books too (as long as you do read some novels too). Also, Christmas books this time too!  You DO NOT have to participate the entire two weeks. Join in when you can, start in the middle, end early...whatever works best for your schedule. As with all of my readathons, it will be two weeks of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away our ever looming TBRs.

Guidelines for the readathon can be found HERE or you can access in the tab at the top of the blog. Any information regarding rules for our readathons can be found there. Please do be sure to check the guidelines to make sure you're following along correctly. There are specific rules regarding signing up and wrapping up, especially in regards to the giveaway. Also, regarding the giveaway, I'll be again adding a Google form to capture names and email addresses so if you're interested in winning a prize (and you've met the sign up and wrap up criteria), I will ask you to fill in that form which will be located on the prize page.

It's been awhile since I participated in a readathon. J will be away on a work trip during the readathon so I should have ample time to indulge in a bit of self-care.

Goals:

  • Read three books
  • Review all books read
  • Read at least 1 hour a day

TBR Pile:

  • Clockwork Princess
  • Clockwork Prince
  • Yellow Brick War (in progress)
  • The End of Oz
  • 50 Great American Places
  • Dead Feminists

  • Dearly, Departed
  • Big Little Lies (in progress)

High Summer Readathon Wrap-up

Well I completely dropped the ball with posting about my progress, but I did read. I didn't read as much as I wanted this week, but I tried to take the time here and there. I'm okay with my readathon performance.

High Summer Readathon is Coming Soon!

I almost completely forgot about this readathon. The summer has been crazy, but it's winding down this weekend. The twins and my mom leave tomorrow, so we'll be back to our much quieter school year routine. I'll have time to concentrate on reading again. And to help me out, the government decided that I should be called for jury duty on Monday. Depending on how the day goes, I may have a lot of time to do nothing by read this week. Here are the details if you want to join:

The official dates are July 20th through the 26th. Guidelines for the read-a-thon can be found HERE or you can access in the tab at the top of the blog. Any information you need about the read-a-thon can be found there. I haven't decided about having one or more Twitter chats yet. If enough people express interest in having one, I will set them up when the read-a-thon starts. Please do be sure to check the guidelines, as it explains all about signing up and starting the read-a-thon. Our Twitter hashtag is #HSreadathon.

High Summer Readathon Finish Line

This is the twins' last week here so I imagine that reading will not be extremely high on my list, but I do want to make a point of reading everyday.  As such, here are my goals and tentative TBR pile.

Goals:

  • Read two books √
  • Review all books read √
  • Read at least 500 pages √

TBR:

  • A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby (in progress)
  • Handmade to Sell by Kelly Rand
  • The Little Prince
  • Journal Bliss by Violette
  • How to Sell Your Crafts Online by Derrick Sutton
  • Pinterest Perfect

Overall, I ended up reading 767 pages and four and a half books.  I'd say that's a resounding success for this week.  I somehow managed to fit in all that reading along with the usual housework, a cranky nonsleeping baby, and two 11 year olds.  I didn't update at all throughout the week, but I made sure to focus on the reading.  I'm calling this one a success!

High Summer Readathon

From Seasons of Reading:

I'm not going to go into much detail here, as I've streamlined things by adding a "Guidelines" tab at the top of the blog. Any information you need about the read-a-thon you can find there. Dates are Monday, July 21 at 12:00am CST through Sunday, July 27 at 11:59pm CST. We will probably only have one Twitter chat this time. I will announce the date and time in the starting post. Also, check the guidelines because I've made changes regarding signing up and the starting line. Our Twitter hashtag is #HighSummerRAT

I'm excited about jumping into another readathon.  It seems like ages since I had one (not really as I did Bout of Books in May, but you know).  Now to figure out my TBR pile.

High Summer Readathon -- Finish Line

Goals:

  • Finish A Storm of Swords  √
  • Start and possibly finish another book √

Page Total: 588 (A Storm of Swords) + 308 (The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor) + 38 (The Bleeding Dusk) = 924 pages

Woohoo!  Look at all the progress I made this week.  I really didn't think that I would get much reading done this week, but I exceeded all my expectations.  I finished my giant novel, start and finished another novel, and started a third.  Lots of good focus on reading this week.

High Summer Readathon Update #4

Reading Progress: 238 of The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor

I finished A Storm of Swords yesterday and felt the need for something a bit less heavy (topic and size), so I picked up my last remaining library book.  I love me some zombie books.  I dove in today and have almost finished the book.  It's a quick read.  I'm sure I will finish it by tomorrow night.

High Summer Readathon Update #3

Reading Progress: 287 pages of A Storm of Swords

I finally finished A Storm of Swords.  So excited about the book today and my overall progress this readathon.  I've read close to 600 pages all while working, taking care of the boys, and doing the usual household stuff.  Tomorrow I hope to start my next book, but we'll see how the day goes.

High Summer Readathon Update #2

Reading Progress: 221 pages of A Storm of Swords

I was a reading fool today!  221 pages in one day is crazy for me, especially attempting to take care of the boys (feeding, conversing, laundry).  I am getting close to the end (about 250 pages to go) and Martin is absolutely killing me.  In that, Martin is killing all the people I like.

High Summer Readathon Update #1

Reading Progress: 80 pages of A Storm of Swords

I jumped back into A Storm of Swords.  I am determined to finisht his book over the course of this week.  I started this readathon already having read 589 pages read (mass market paperback).  That means that I only have 588 pages to read (not counting today's page count).  I think I can do it, I think I can do it...

High Summer Readathon -- Starting Line

Usually for readathons, I have a huge TBR pile and list of goals.  Unfortunately, my life is so busy right now that expecting a huge amount of books read this coming week is just crazy.  Therefore, I am scaling back my goals to something much more realistic.  I still want to focus on reading this week and want to accomplish something.

Goals:

  • Finish A Storm of Swords
  • Start and possibly finish another book

High Summer Readathon

From Seasons of Reading:

It's time to sign up for the High Summer Read-a-Thon! I hope you will join me this month for the week of July 22. We will start on Monday, 7/22 at 12:00am CST and finish on Sunday, 7/28 at 11:59pm CST (adjust times according to your time zone). Read what you like during the week. I've decided it's not about quantity, but quality (although those who rock the quantity...I salute you!). So, if you have kids and want to read children's books, go for it! As always, this is a week long read-a-thon, but you can join in and read whenever it's convenient for you. It's all about being laid back and getting some reading done.

I will not be hosting any mini-challenges, as we learned from my last few read-a-thons, focusing on the reading rocks. However, if anyone else would like to host a mini-challenge (or giveaway), you are more than welcome...just let me know. If you know someone who would like to donate a prize, or authors, if you would like to promote your book through the read-a-thon, please contact me via the tab at the top of the blog. We will also have a few scheduled Twitter chats again. I will announce the times in the starting line post. Our Twitter hashtag is #HSreadathonYou do not have to have a blog. You can sign up using your Goodreads, Twitter, or Facebook accounts.

I have stayed away from readathons this summer as the boys and work have keep me very busy.  But, I've always enjoyed no-fuss readathons.  I feel like it's time to join up again.  I will be posting my TBR pile and goals on Sunday July 21st.  But if you want to join up, head on over to Seasons of Reading and sign up with us!
