Bout of Books 12 Finish Line

Bout of Books

Pages Read Today: 368 (The Killer Angels) + 152 (A Hundred Pieces of Me)

Pages Read Total: 894

Life got a little crazy and my reading time decreased over the week. I'm still happy about reading two complete books over this week. Love the low-key approach to this readathon.

Here are my goals for this week:

  • Read 3 books -- Failed... I read two books and started my third, but didn't finish it
  • Review all books read -- I did review both of the books that I finished.
  • Read 1000 pages -- Close but not quite
  • Participate in at least two challenges -- failed... life got in the way

TBR Pile:

  • Love Finds You in Hershey Pennsylvania by Cerella Sechrist √
  • The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara √
  • The Art of Asking by Amanda Palmer
  • A Hundred Pieces of Me by Lucy Dillon (in progress)

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 5th and runs through Sunday, January 11th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 12 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team

Bout of Books 12 Readathon is coming!

Bout of Books

I can't wait until this readathon starts!  Unfortunately I will be traveling all day on Tuesday so I don't know how much I can participate that day.  I'm hoping to read at least 5 books and kickstart my 2015 reading right! If you want to sign up, head on over to the Bout of Books site and join the fun!

FrightFall Readathon is Dead

So I didn't quite finish all my goals... but I got a chunk taken care of.  I've been attempting to read Dune for ages.  Knocking that one out makes me happy.  I also read a decent chunk of The Living Dead and will definitely finish that one this week. Decent accomplishments, but as usual, life with a baby boy got in the way of reading.

Goals:

  • Read two books
  • Review all books read √
  • Read at least 1000 pages √
  • Knock out 5 reading challenge spots

TBR:

  • Scary selection -- The Living Dead (in progress)
  • Dune by Frank Herbert
  •  Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
  • The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul by Terry Pratchett
  • Divergent by Veronica Roth
  • The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
  • Soulless Vol 1
  • Soulless Vol 2
  • The Mad Scientist’s Guide to World Domination
  • The Mammoth Book of Steampunk

FrightFall Readathon is Right Around the Corner!

From Seasons of Reading:

I'm so very excited that it's almost officially Fall again (although I always kick off Fall personally on September 1...haha)! The FrightFall Read-a-Thon is only two weeks away! Official dates are September 29 through October 5. I hope you're ready to get your scary on! Guidelines for the read-a-thon can be found HERE or you can access in the tab at the top of the blog. Any information you need about the read-a-thon can be found there. We will have one Twitter chat. I will announce the date and time in the starting post. Please do be sure to check the guidelines, as I've made changes regarding signing up and the starting line. Our Twitter hashtag is #FrightFall.
Just remember...the one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart).

I'm joining!  Now I just need to pick my scary book to read for the season.

Goals:

  • Read more than 500 pages √
  • Participate in at least one challenge - fail
  • Participate in at least one Twitter chat - fail

Bout of Books Update #2

Bout of Books

Pages Read: 290 (Moonglow)

Pages Read Total: 1158

Comments: I finished

Moonglow

Thursday night and had every intention of starting my next book.  I got about 5 pages in before life intervened.  Today was full of baby care and cleaning.  Hopefully I get some reading time tomorrow.  I'm really looking forward to my next book: Becoming Mona Lisa.

Bout of Books

Pages Read: 202 (Reasons My Kid is Crying) + 574 (The Orphans at Race Point) + 92 (Moonglow)

Comments: Having a crazy active 10-month-old really puts a kink in my reading plans.  I did manage to finish my book club book (for Sunday) and a fun silly book.  Plus, I started my next book.  Hoping to finish it Friday...

High Summer Readathon Finish Line

This is the twins' last week here so I imagine that reading will not be extremely high on my list, but I do want to make a point of reading everyday.  As such, here are my goals and tentative TBR pile.

Goals:

  • Read two books √
  • Review all books read √
  • Read at least 500 pages √

TBR:

  • A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby (in progress)
  • Handmade to Sell by Kelly Rand
  • The Little Prince
  • Journal Bliss by Violette
  • How to Sell Your Crafts Online by Derrick Sutton
  • Pinterest Perfect

Overall, I ended up reading 767 pages and four and a half books.  I'd say that's a resounding success for this week.  I somehow managed to fit in all that reading along with the usual housework, a cranky nonsleeping baby, and two 11 year olds.  I didn't update at all throughout the week, but I made sure to focus on the reading.  I'm calling this one a success!

High Summer Readathon

From Seasons of Reading:

I'm not going to go into much detail here, as I've streamlined things by adding a "Guidelines" tab at the top of the blog. Any information you need about the read-a-thon you can find there. Dates are Monday, July 21 at 12:00am CST through Sunday, July 27 at 11:59pm CST. We will probably only have one Twitter chat this time. I will announce the date and time in the starting post. Also, check the guidelines because I've made changes regarding signing up and the starting line. Our Twitter hashtag is #HighSummerRAT

I'm excited about jumping into another readathon.  It seems like ages since I had one (not really as I did Bout of Books in May, but you know).  Now to figure out my TBR pile.

Bout of Books 10.0 is Over!

Bout of Books

Pages Read Today: 206 (The Strain)

Pages Read Total: 686

Reading Helpers: A cranky non-sleeping baby...

Challenges: None

Comments: Yet again, I struggled with this readathon.  This time I'm blaming too many previously scheduled activities and sickness for my love numbers.  I just never seemed to find a lot of time to sit and just read.  Every time the baby actually took a nap, I was wrapped up in house chores or answering emails.  Although I am excited about reading and finishing American Gods before book club earlier today.  And I read Part 1 of The Strain for the readalong and more.  I think I've decided to just keep reading The Strain instead of waiting for the next time period.  It's really sucked me in and creeped me out.  I must find out what happens...

Goals:

  • Read three books
  • Read 1000 pages
  • Review all books read √
  • Finish my book club selection: American Gods by Neil Gaiman √

TBR:

  • American Gods by Neil Gaiman √
  • A Vindication on the Rights of Women by Mary Wollstonecraft
  • Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn
  • Summer Rental by Mary Kay Andrews
  • Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
  • Stranger Than Fiction by Chuck Palahniuk
  • What Happens in London by Julia Quinn
  • The Strain by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan (in progress)

Bout of Books 10.0 Day #1-4

Bout of Books

Pages Read Today: 480

Pages Read Total: 480

Reading Helpers: Lots and lots of tea; cookies; my bed

Challenges: None

Comments: Apparently I completely fell off the updating train.  Oh well, at least I was still attempting to read these past four days.  With my limited free time (a 7 month old really sucks the life out of you), I have been trying to at least read a chapter or two before bed.  I managed to finish my book club selection American Gods (meeting is this Sunday) in these past few days.  Hopefully I can finish at least one more book before the end of Sunday.

Spring Into Horror -- Finish Line

Pages Read: 113 (Is Everyone...) + 81 (Gentleman of Her Dreams) + 137 (The Strain) + 17 (Ember) = 348

Comments: I made some progress on my reading, but once again life just got in the way.  It didn't help that J got sick and hasn't been able to help with the baby all week.  And we had a ton of baby related events.  I did make some good headway on knocking out two books before April ended, reading my readalong section (discussion on May 16th), and starting another book.  Hopefully the next readathon goes a bit better than this one.

Goals:

  • Read three books (if we count the readalong section) √
  • Read the first readalong section of The Strain  √
  • Review all books read √
  • Read at least 1000 pages (not even close)

TBR PIle:

  • Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me by Mindy Kaling √
  • Gentleman of Her Dreams by Jen Turano √
  • The Strain by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan (section 1) √
  • American Gods by Neil Gaiman
  • A Vindication on the Rights of Women by Mary Wollstonecraft
  • What Happens in London by Julia Quinn
