  • Back to the Classics -- Difficult but I did it and read some great classics.
  • Mixing It Up -- 16 books from 16 different genres.  Loved it!
  • Historical Fiction -- I never get to it until the second part of the year, but I do love this genre.

Comments

I ended the reading year with a bang.  Look at those numbers!  I am very excited about my progress.  And while I didn't finish all the challenges that I started, I still think my completion rate is pretty awesome.  I'm hoping to start 2013 well with some great books.

Comments

November was awesome!   I knocked out three reading challenges and over 4000 pages.  Traveling to Indiana for Thanksgiving allowed me a ton of time for reading on planes and in airports.  And I used my iPad to read most of those books.  I'm hoping to finish at least four more reading challenges in December and finish 2012 out with a bang!

Challenges Completed

  • Zombie Reading Challenge -- 24 awesome horror filled books for me to enjoy.  I already have my eyes on some zombie books for next year's challenge.

Comments

Pretty good month for reading.  I started out with the FrightFall Readathon and the goal of finishing my zombie challenge.  I got through five books during the readathon.  Decent showing for not a huge amount of reading.  And within the next week I had finished my zombie challenge. I also joined a book club and we had our first meeting (Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks).  Because of the holidays and traveling, we won't be having our next meeting until December.  I'm really looking forward to it.  For next month I want to knock out my Shakespeare challenge and Fantasy challenge.  I plan on loading my iPad with reads for the Thanksgiving traveling.  Hopefully I can have tons to read and only have to lug one physical book (for take-off and landings).  Plans plans plans...

Next Month's TBR -- iPad reads month

  • Cymbeline by Shakespeare
  • Pericles by Shakespeare
  • As You Like It by Shakespeare
  • Othello by Shakespeare
  • Flower Fables by Louisa May Alcott

  • YA -- Another 12 books off my list!  This will definitely be making an appearance for next year, but I'm also thinking of adding a Children's fiction challenge.

Comments

I had scheduled a wonderful readathon with Bout of Books and I had hoped to get through a huge stack of books.  Life had other plans.  My medical issues took all of the strength and motivation from me.  I just didn't get as much read as I wanted, but I think my numbers are still respectable.  Plus, I knocked out some Shakespeare right at the end of the month.

Next Month's TBR -- So many books as the year is winding down.  My top priorities...

  • Harry Potter 7
  • A Kiss in Time by Alex Flinn
  • This Book is Overdue

Current Read

Ashen Winterl by Mike Mullin

Books Won (1)

Eden's Root by Rachel Fisher from the author!

Books I Gave Up On (1)

Jemima J by Jane Green -- I gave it 48 pages and just couldn't connect with any of the characters.  The book was published in 1999 and makes the internet sound like this new wonderful thing.  Maybe if I read it in 1999, I would have liked it.  In 2012, it just felt dated...

Challenges Completed

  • Graphic Novel Challenge -- I loved this one!  I signed up for 20 volumes, but I'm sure that I'll be reading more throughout the rest of the year.
  • Support Your Local Library -- Easy peasy.  I just can't resist the lure of all the books on the shelves.  I really do need to put myself on a library ban and get to my own books (note my abysmal progress on the Mount TBR challenge).
  • Vampire Challenge -- I originally was going to read Jeanine Frosts books, but found myself rounding out the challenge with the Vampire Academy series.  This will definitely be on my list for next year's challenges.

Comments

Loving my progress this month.  I knocked out three reading challenges and over 5000 pages.  I still need to focus on a few specific challenges, but I'm happy.  I also finished three series!  I really need to keep up my motivation.

Next Month's TBR

  • His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman

Comments

It was a good month for reading!  My favorite of the month was definitely The Lost Hero!  The boys and I can't wait to start The Son of Neptune.  I also enjoyed starting the Vampire Academy and Sandman series.  I got a few knocked out my Mount TBR and a few from my general TBR list.  I'm ahead on my GoodReads challenge and want to stay that way.  I'll try to keep the reading going strong for the rest of the summer.  Wish me luck!

Paris in Love by Eloisa.  -- While, I ultimately decided to stop reading, I did share why I stopped reading it in a review.

  • Bout of Books Readathon -- I always have fun doing this one!

Comments

A much better month than I originally thought.  Of course, participating in the Bout of Books Readathon helped focus my reading.  I finished 5 books in that week alone.  I knocked out a few from the TBR shelves and a few from the library.  I also completed two more HP books which gets me back on track for my one a month plan.  Overall I have to say my favorite book this month was Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter.  I can't wait until the movie comes out (June 22nd!).  Looking forward to knocking out a few reading challenges next month.

Next Month's TBR

I thought April would be a wash with Spring Break vacation and moving, but I ended up with a respectable book and page counts.  I didn't get around to reading my MonthlyShakespeare (Much Ado About Nothing) or my Monthly Harry Potter (Goblet of Fire).  So those are definitely going on the list for May.

Comments

I think I finished the year off on a strong note.  I didn't read as many books I would have liked this month, but I think 9 is respectable given all the events going on.  I'm taking a bit of a reading break to grear up for next year's reading.

Comments

This month was a dismal failure.  I got so busy at work, at home, and traveling that I just didn't get much read.  I've been averaging 15 books a month, so 7 is bad.  I have about 30 books to read for December if I'm going to finish my main reading challenges.  I have given up completely on three of them, but I really want to cross the finish line for the others.  Hopefully!  I have some reading time blocked out in December so I can tackle some of those.

Other than that, November was a full month.  I got most of my Christmas cards made.  That's right, I'm making homemade Christmas cards this year.  I had a great Stampin' Up class with some new ideas to try out.  But the big event was traveling back to Indiana for Thanksgiving.  I finished a book on the plane going there and a book on the plane coming back.  The rest of the time was spent hanging with my boys, friends, and family.  We had packed days with activities and reconnecting with friends.  I was a bit disappointed with some of the people I thought were friends.  But I did get to see many others and we had a great time.

Next Month's TBR

  • ~7 Fables volumes

Series I Gave Up On

Night World -- It became much too formulaic for my tastes.  I had to call it quits.

Challenges Completed (6)

Frightful Fall Readathon.  Dewey 24-Hour Readathon.  Graphic Novel Reading Challenge.  Bout of Books Readathon.  Page to Screen Reading Challenge.  Vampire Challenge.

Three readathons and three reading challenges completed.  I am very happy with my success from this past month. Also I am getting closer and closer to my 2011 reading goals (over 80% done!).

Comments

I knew this month would be a transition time.  Settling into my full time position meant I had to reexamine my reading habits and time.  Hence the abundance of graphic novels in my reading list.  They are easier to stop and start than full length novels.  Plus I can finish one of them in a day.  They helped me smooth over the transition.  I already have my TBR list for next month.  It's full of historical fiction to wrap up that and some other yearly challenges.  I am certain the Fables series will be continued once those books come off hold at the library.  And J just told me today that the next The Boys volume comes out towards the end of the month...  You know we will be getting and devouring that.

Current Read

Soulless by Gail Carriger -- Loving it so far!

Challenges Completed (1.5)

A movie challenge completed... Well almost.  We tried to watch one movie for every letter of the alphabet from our collection.  We have a few letters left.  Specifically Q, V, W, X, Y, and Z.  We have at least two movies for each of those letters, but we ran out of days.  I figured we wouldn't watch one movie a night.  The new fall seasons started two weeks ago.  Plus some nights we spent time talking or reading or blogging.  Therefore we are a bit behind.  But we have recommitted to finish out those letters in the next two weeks.

And the Summer Romance Challenge! I committed myself to reading 24 books for the challenge (8 historical romance, 8 contemporary romance, and 8 paranormal romance).  At the start of September, I was a bit scared.  I still had 7 books to read and four of those were from contemporary romance.  Thankfully I found some good books and finished the challenge out.

Comments

A new life challenge started.  The Day Zero Project: 101 things in 1001 days.  I am really excited to make some tangible goals for myself for the next 2.75 years.  I've already made some good progress.  I hit a snag this past week, but I know have a better laid out plan.

I am a bit disappointed with my reading this week.  The total is lower than I would like, but I have a good excuse: I got a job!  I'm so excited to start a new job, and not just because that means an influx of money.  It's a small, but integral position at a great social service organization focused on kids.  Everyone has been so welcoming and helpful.  I've eased into the organization and atmosphere easily.  I'm even out of the training portion of the job and have claimed my area and responsibilities.  It feels great.

Hopefully next month I'll be able to up my reading back to its usual numbers.  Plus I have two reading challenges coming up: Fall Frightful Reading Challenge and the Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon (first attempt!).  Looking forward to it!
