Decent story that hinges on gambling and quantum computing. Thank goodness I watched a long video explaining quantum computers a few months back. That really helped me understand where Weir was going with this story. The actual plot is pretty predictable, but I enjoyed where we went in just a few pages.

Usually I copy and paste a book summary here, but all the ones I found contained way too many fucking spoilers! So here is my summary: This is a fun space romp involving a desperate race to save humanity. That’s it. That’s all you need to know before reading this book.

I closed this book and had a huge smile on my face while simultaneously crying. So incredibly amazing. I loved The Martian, but was less enthused by Artemis. I dove into this book after my husband kept shoving it in my face. And I’m so glad that he did! Right from the first page, I was sucked into this story based in space. I love a well-written space adventure and this does not disappoint. Weir includes a lot of science, but it does it in such way that I understood and even if I skimmed it, it wasn’t absolutely essential to the larger story. This review is incredibly vague because I do not want to spoil anything. Seriously, don’t read the summaries, just go and get the book right now.

So when a chance at a huge score finally comes her way, Jazz can’t say no. Sure, it requires her to graduate from small-time smuggler to full-on criminal mastermind. And it calls for a particular combination of cunning, technical skills, and large explosions—not to mention sheer brazen swagger. But Jazz has never run into a challenge her intellect can’t handle, and she figures she’s got the ‘swagger’ part down. 
 
The trouble is, engineering the perfect crime is just the start of Jazz’s problems. Because her little heist is about to land her in the middle of a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself. 

Overall I really enjoyed this book. Instead of a survival story, we get a space adventure combined with a heist and corporate intrigue. I immediately fell for Jazz and her general lifestyle. Very fun to read about! She is definitely one of those anti-heroes. Perfect for this kind of book. From there, Weir fills Artemis with other interesting characters to be accomplices or foils for Jazz. The author toned down the science talk from The Martian, but it’s still there. I learned a lot about how you could create and sustain a colony on the moon. I sped through this book over my weekend away and it was definitely an entertaining read.

Holy moley! What a book! Everyone has been raving about this one and they were right. There is an amazing blend of science and suspense to keep my attention throughout the book. I actually read the first ~80 pages one night and then read the rest today in one sitting. It was too good to put down again! I was right there with Mark through every obstacle and constant boredom. I loved getting in deep with the science. Weir definitely did his homework. I know there are a few fictional concessions to traveling to and from Mars, but they weren't out of the realm of possibility. This book held me to the last page. Now I want to read more actual science about getting to Mars.
