Bokeh Butterfly

Today's challenge was to revisit a technique in preparation for August stamp club (was August 19). I hadn't revisited the bokeh technique for awhile, so I decided to focus on that. I also haven't featured it at stamp club for at least a year... For this card, I sponged on my colored ink to a piece of Whisper White. I then die cut a acetate overlay with multiple different sized circles. I then sponged on white craft ink using the die cut piece as a mask. I blended the white to create varying degrees of opacity. After letting that piece dry, I added the rest of the elements of the card.

  • Stamps: Birthday Blooms
  • Inks: Fresh Fig, Pool Party, Old Olive, White Craft Ink
  • Cardstock: Fresh Fig, Pool Party, Silver Foil, Whisper White
  • Accessories: Pool Party Ribbon (retired)
  • Tools: Bold Butterfly Thinlits

SSINKTC41: Dreamy Dragonflies

Today’s card is being featured on Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration. The challenge was to create a card using the technique below.

For my card, I knew I wanted to keep a fairly monochromatic color palette and use my dragonflies. I started with making my base. There are a few ways to achieve the bokeh effect. I chose to use the sponging and craft ink method. I have also seen a watercolor method and a water drop method. Search YouTube for some great tutorials.

I sponged Night of Navy, Island Indigo, Bermuda Bay, and Pool Party onto a piece of white cardstock. From there, I die cut some different size circles into a piece of acetate to create a template. I then stenciled on craft white ink to soften the colors and create the bokeh effect. From there it was just a matter of deciding which dragonfly to use and picking a sentiment. I went with the fun multiple dragonflies and jazzed it up with a bit of Wink of Stella (hard to see in photo). For the sentiment, I pulled out my SAB stamp set Designer Tee. This little sentiment fir perfectly in my square Stitched Shapes Framelits. I added a layered piece of Island Indigo to give it some depth. Loving this card!

My Very Own DSP

Today's card is featured over at Stylin' Stampin' Inkspiration and features a fun Make-Your-Own-DSP card. I went with a larger piece of Bokeh inspired to create my DSP. I sponged on a random assortment of Real Red, Blushing Bride, Melon Mambo, and Watermelon Wonder. From there, I dripped water into the paper in a random pattern. Let dry and you get this cool effect. For my card, I kept it simple with one big sentiment and coordinating cardstock to finish it.
