Monthly Life Goals December 2014

Before I get to this month’s goals, let’s check in on Novembers’s goals and my progress.

  • 30 Day Challenge: Gratitude Daily -- Success!  I actually kept up with it and now have two nice spreads in my PL album.
  • 30 Days Challenge: Pinterest Project a Day -- Fail. Bad idea with all that was going on in November.  Maybe I'll try again in February...
  • Clean out my closet -- Success!  I chucked a fair amount of non-fitting things.
  • Plan and execute a date night with J -- Fail. Sickness and moving got in the way.
  • Clean out the boys' toys and books -- Success! Now it needs to be put away in the new house.
  • Take bags to GW and books to HPB -- Success!  Well, okay, J physically took the bags, but I did put the bags together.

This month's goals: These are a little different as I am in Indiana all month visiting family.

  • 30 Day Challenge: December Daily -- I'm finally doing it.  Now I just need to keep up with everything. I packed myself a small crafting case so that I have some embellishment options for Indiana.
  • Prep and finish all my year end blogging posts before the 31st -- I always take a blogging break during Christmas break.  I like to take some time away from the blog.  And it gives me an opportunity to get a jump of early 2015 and finish my year end posts without much rush.
  • Create our Christmas break bucket list for the twins -- Nothing fancy, but I want to have some ideas before they arrive.
  • Prep my 2015 TBR list -- I love having my options laid out early.  2015 will be about women authors.  I have a giant list, but want to pare it down a bit to those that I am super excited about.

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

Title: The Hobbit

Author: J.R.R. Tolkien

Publisher: 1937

Genre: Fantasy Literature

Pages: 300

Rating:  5/5 stars

Reading Challenges: Fantasy Project; Fall into Reading; Mount TBR; 52 Books - W49; Rereading; Book to Movie

Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an adventure. They have launched a plot to raid the treasure hoard guarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon. Bilbo reluctantly joins their quest, unaware that on his journey to the Lonely Mountain he will encounter both a magic ring and a frightening creature known as Gollum.

A classic.  A classic that I haven't read for a few years now. I figured it was time to reread especially with the release of the last part of the movie trilogy.  I love Bilbo Baggins so much.  He is such a great character. I love that the audience can latch onto Bilbo along this crazy journey of his. My absolute favorite part of the book is Riddles in the Deep (chapter where Bilbo gets the ring from Gollum).  I love the dialogue between the two characters, three if you count Smeagel.  Smaug is also an amazing character.  I love the interchanges between the dragon and the other characters.  Great dialogue!!!

Movie:

Peter Jackson is a master of taking these classic books and turning them into beautiful film adaptations. I know that there are changes between book and movie, but the changes don't bother me at all.  I was still so enthralled with the story. Martin Freeman was a great Bilbo, but my favorite was Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield.  Perfect acting!  I can't wait to see the trilogy closer this Christmas.
