Spring Into Horror Readathon

Woohoo! I'm always excited for the readathons from Seasons of Reading.  I definitely will be joining this one. Now to go make my TBR pile and goals.  I'm thinking about starting The Strain readalong early...

The Spring into Horror Read-a-Thon is almost here! It's coming to put some scare in your Spring on Monday, April 28 at 12:00am CST through Sunday, May 4 at 11:59pm CST (adjust times according to your time zone). Now don't let the word 'horror' scare you away. You only have to read one scary book during the duration of the read-a-thon. However, that book can be horror, paranormal, thriller, mystery, etc. The rest of the read-a-thon, you can read whatever you want. More horror/scary stuff or just your regular reading repertoire. As always, this is a week long read-a-thon, but you can join in and read whenever it's convenient for you. It's all about being laid back and getting some reading done...with a little bit of scary thrown in.

As with all of my read-a-thons, I will not be hosting any mini-challenges. We like to focus on the reading here. However, if anyone else would like to host a mini-challenge, you are more than welcome...just let me know. If you know someone who would like to donate a prize, or authors, if you would like to promote your book through the read-a-thon, please contact me via the contact form in the menu above. We will also have some scheduled Twitter chats. I will announce the times in the starting line post. Our Twitter hashtag is #SpringHorrorRAT

You do not have to have a blog. You can sign up using your Goodreads, Twitter, or Facebook accounts.

Bout of Books is just around the corner...

Bout of Books

I'm so excited for the next Bout of Books readathon.  Last time, I was constrained by baby and home commitments.  This time I still have baby, but he's a little less demanding than he was at 3 months.  Plus, I am going to have a game plan going in instead of just winging it.  My goals post and TBR pile is my next step...

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 12th and runs through Sunday, May 18th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional.

For all Bout of Books 10 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team

  • Read two books
  • Review all books read √

Love for Books Readathon Day #5

lfbreadathon

Pages read today: 111 (The Lost Prince)

Pages read total: 252

Comments: Well...  this week isn't going as I planned.  Baby has decided that he doesn't like it when I read during the day.  I did finally finish The Lost Prince.  I know I won't finish Time Enough for Love before Sunday, but I really want to get at least another 100 pages in.

Love for Books Readathon Day #2

lfbreadathon

Pages read today: 75 (The Lost Prince) + 66 (Time Enough for Love)

Pages read total: 141

Comments: A slow start for the first two days of the readathon, but I'm still encouraged to keep reading.  My goal is to finish The Lost Prince tomorrow.  I only have 100 pages left so it's possible.  Time Enough for Love will take me much longer, but I imagine that I will continue to read that at night before bed.

Love for Books Readathon

lfbreadathon

From Novel Heartbeat:

I loooove readathons and so does Amanda, so we decided it was time for one! What does this readathon entail, you ask? Well, read as much or as little as you want – the main point is to READ! You set your own goal!

  • The Love for Books Readathon runs from Monday, February 17th at 12:01 am through Sunday, February 23rd at 11:59 pm.
  • We will have at least one mini challenge sometime during the week for you to participate in!
  • There will be a giveaway at the end of the readathon for all participants.
  • Sign up at Novel Heartbeat or Confessions of a Bookie Monster. You may join whenever you like, but to be eligible for our grand prize giveaway, you must sign up by February 18th.
  • To join, all you have to do is make a sign-up post and add your post URL to the linky below! You can put your goals and progress (will be required for the final giveaway) in your sign-up post, or you can make it separate. Totally up to you!
  • In order to enter for the grand prize, you must have a post to keep track of your progress so we can see that you participated.

I think it's time for another readathon and this one looks good.

A Winter's Respite Readathon -- Starting Line

After a not-so-great Bout of Books earlier in January, I realized that I need to re-evaluate my expectations when it comes to readathons.  Gone are the days of unlimited reading.  My 3-month-old demands too much of my time to be able to read 2000 pages in one week.  So, I am scaling back.  I still want to commit myself to read more than usual, but I'm going to keep the goals realistic.

Goals:

  • Read two books
  • Review all books read
  • Read each day

TBR Pile (my pile of choices, not mandatory reads):

  • Living History by Hillary Rodham Clinton
  • Lessons in French by Laura Kinsale (in progress)
  • The Nanny Diaries by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus

A Winter's Respite Readathon is Almost Upon Us

From Seasons of Reading:

Happy New Year! I know a lot of you have probably been wondering when I would get this posted. Well, here it is...finally! The official sign up for A Winter's Respite Read-a-Thon! It's just a little under a month away on January 27 - February 2, starting at 12:00am Monday and ending at 11:59pm on Sunday.  Times are central standard time so adjust your times accordingly.  Of course, like most read-a-thons, the books read must be novels or novellas, adult or young adult are fine, and you can read children's books too (as long as you do read some novels too).   Note: Non-Fiction is also okay! You DO NOT have to participate the entire week.  Join in when you can, start in the middle, end early...whatever works best for your schedule.  As long as you sign in at the sign-in post and do some kind of wrap up post, you're in for the big giveaway at the end.  As with my previous read-a-thons, it will be a week of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away those ever looming TBR piles/shelves/libraries.  I hope you will join me! I will not be hosting any mini-challenges. However, if anyone else would like to host a mini-challenge or giveaway, you are more than welcome (Contact me using the contact form above). We will have a few scheduled Twitter chats. Dates/Times will be announced at the sign-in post. Our twitter hashtag is #WintersRespite

This has become on of my yearly readathons.  Of course I'll be joining this time.  Now to go and get my TBR stack and goals ready...

Bout of Books 9.0 is done...

Pages Read Today: 190 (The Fault in Our Stars) + 34 (Shambling with the Stars) + 71 (The Audacity of Hope)

Pages Read Total: 750

Reading Helpers: Plane ride and a sleepy baby.

Challenges: None for me.

Comments: Saturday was our all day traveling day.  On the ride to Indiana, I didn't read at all.  This time I got in a ton of reading when Arthur was sleeping or quietly playing with a toy.  The middle seat was empty, so it was easy to lay him next to me and save my arms.  I finished TFiOS, a short story, and started another book.  I didn't meet my goals, but I did get more reading done than I thought I realistically would.

Goals:

  • Read 5 books -- Failed...
  • Read 1000 pages -- Failed... but did fairly well with 750 pages
  • Review all books read -- Success!  Of course, I only read two books and a short story, but I reviewed them!
  • Participate in 2 challenges -- Failed...  I didn't participate in a single challenge this time.

TBR Pile: My various selections.  I won't get to all these, but this is my pile of options.

  • High Fidelity by Nick Hornby
  • Medium Raw by Anthony Bourdain
  • The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
  • Time Enough for Love by Robert Heinlein
  • A Room with a View by E.M. Forster
  • Living History by Hillary Rodham Clinton
  • The Nanny Diaries by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus
  • Added: Shambling with the Stars by Jesse Petersen
  • Added: The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama (in progress)

Pages Read Today: 147 (The Fault in Our Stars)

Pages Read Total: 455

Reading Helpers: Caramel cocoa and late nights with baby.

Challenges: None for me.

Comments: Wednesday we were gone almost all day with with family.  I read a bit before bed, but wasn't going to take the time to do an update post.  I'm slowly slowly getting through The Fault in Our Stars, but time is just getting away from me.  I definitely won't be meeting my goals, but I do want to at least finish TFiOS by Sunday.

Bout of Books 9.0 is right around the corner!

bout-of-books (1920).jpg

This is my kick off post for the start of the readathon tomorrow.  I'm ready to get this thing going.  Before the readathon started, I had already started my 2014 reading.  But this coming week is when I kick everything into high gear.  I plan on reading as much as I can and participate in some challenges.  I know that Tuesday will be a wash with traveling back to California.  Traveling with baby seriously impedes my ability to read while flying.  But that's okay!  I have six other days to read and enjoy myself.

Goals:

  • Read 5 books
  • Read 1000 pages
  • Review all books read
  • Participate in 2 challenges (hopefully more, but this is my minimum)

TBR Pile: My various selections.  I won't get to all these, but this is my pile of options.

  • High Fidelity by Nick Hornby
  • Medium Raw by Anthony Bourdain
  • The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
  • Time Enough for Love by Robert Heinlein
