SSINKCC54: Leaves and Tea

Today’s card is being featured on Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration. The challenge was to create a card using the following colors:

I pulled out the colors and pondered the direction of my card. I knew I wanted to use the Making Everyday Bright leaves to decorate and adorn something. I paired the leaves with the Time for Tea stamp set to create a card full of leaves and a cup of tea. I then finished out my card by adding more texture (embossing folder, ribbon) and visual interest.

Soup and a Card

Today’s card is being featured on Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration. The challenge was to create a card and feature a soup of the day recipe. I love when the weather cools down just enough to enjoy a giant pot of soup. One of my favorite soup recipes is for Sausage, Potato, Spinach soup. It’s a hearty soup with just the right amount of spice for my spicy husband. I took the recipe from Damn Delicious and it really is!

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 pound spicy Italian sausage, casing removed

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 onion, diced

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon dried basil

1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

5 cups chicken broth

1 bay leaf

1 pound red potatoes, diced

3 cups baby spinach

1/4 cup heavy cream

Directions:

Heat olive oil in a large stockpot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add Italian sausage and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes, making sure to crumble the sausage as it cooks; drain excess fat.

Stir in garlic, onion, oregano, basil and red pepper flakes. Cook, stirring frequently, until onions have become translucent, about 2-3 minutes; season with salt and pepper, to taste.

Stir in chicken broth and bay leaf, and bring to a boil. Add potatoes and cook until tender, about 10 minutes.

Stir in spinach until it begins to wilt, about 1-2 minutes. Stir in heavy cream until heated through, about 1 minute; season with salt and pepper, to taste.

Serve immediately.

And while I love a good pot of soup, the weather outside also call for the perfect cup of tea. I decided to make a card featuring a great cup of tea! I really fell for the Tea Room Suite in the annual catalog and this is the perfect use of the suite!

Frosted Cheers

Today’s card was featured at my Fall Bingo event. This card turned out more simple than I intended, but I have to say that I like the result. You can’t quite see the details, but the white background pane is shimmery to connect with the shimmery Frosted Floral DSP.

Floral Cup of Happiness

Today’s card was featured at my fall Bingo event. I started with a general idea of a card and started adding tons of texture! I had seen a card featuring stamps floral images surrounding a pretty stitched shape framelit, but I realized that I didn’t have any of the floral stamps that I saw. So I improvised and fussy cut these beautiful shimmery flowers from the Frosted Floral DSP pack. I love the colors and textures on this card so much. If I had to pick, my favorite piece is the Tranquil Tide Velvet Ribbon. So beautiful and must touch!
