Odds and Ends

Here's my randomness for the week:

• The heart is really getting to me… I never want to eat food (even though I really should) and I’m having so much trouble sleeping.

• Thankful that we replaced the AC last fall. So much better than last summer!

• Watermelon is amazing. That’s all.

• I have so many projects in the works. I really need to make a few Gantt charts to help me out.

• Working on our fall schedule and I just keep moving everything around. Really need to just commit to something for peace of mind right now.

• Speaking of, I need to pull all my material for Quentin and rethink some things. He’s been just passively learning this past year and I think some of it will be beneath him.

• Over the last week I have put in a Book Outlet order for 26 books and two Amazon orders a total of 30 books. Five were for the reading retreat and one was for me. The rest are for the kids for homeschooling. So many books will be arriving!

• The boys conquered a 3 mile hike on Tuesday and I am so proud of them.

• I three big events tentatively scheduled for fall. Things are happening!

• Eyeglasses are next on my big life list of things to take care of.

• I started reading Broken by Jenny Lawson in bed and realized that was a bag choice. I was laughing so hard, it felt like one of those vibrating beds. Guess that will be my daytime read.

• I finally finished a craft project yesterday. Only 50 million left to go…

• Is May homeschooling fatigue a thing? I think I’ve got it.

• Started planning our fall road trip (rescheduled from summer 2020) and I’m super excited about the possibilities.

• Need to pick a dessert to make, maybe Andes Mint Cupcakes?

Here's my randomness for the week:

• I need to put a visit to a local farmer’s market on my calendar. Hoping we can get some good local produce to supplement the meager grocery store offerings.

• Very excited about the free resources available for teacher appreciation week. Homeschool resourcing has become more challenging as we are recalibrating for next year.

• So excited to get my permanent bridge put in today. I might be able to eat correctly tomorrow or Saturday.

• I’m not sure what I’ll be eating tonight for dinner…

• I think my mint plant died… possibly from shock (the temps have been all over the place this past week). The flowers look okay, and the tomatoes seem to have started growing, but I’m concerned still.

• Feels so weird to have a lump of concrete in my mouth where my missing tooth is. Two weeks until I get a permanent tooth.

• Hopefully this week was our last frost and we plant some veggies this coming week.

• I’m on a historical romance reading spree this week.

• 88 degrees and sunny on Monday, 40 degrees and rainy today. Welcome to the Midwest!

• My removable wallpaper came yesterday! So excited to jazz up our built-ins flanking the fireplace. Hopefully it will get done this weekend.

• I also have a bookshelf arriving today. I need a place to store all our homeschooling resources. Piles on my craft room floor is not cutting it now.

• Read a picture book last night that made me cry. Hit me right in the feels. It’s a time capsule for the first few months of the pandemic. Outside, Inside by LeUyen Pham

• I have my first haircut in 9 months this afternoon and I’m still deciding what to do. I’m thinking a dramatic asymmetrical bob.

• Been on a huge romance binge right now and I’m totally okay with it

• Finally started watching Ted Lasso and it is just what we need right now

• I need to pick a new dessert recipe for this week. Maybe an orange cake?

• While I love falling asleep to the rain, I’m very over the rain and need a bit of sunshine this week.

• In a weird twist of life, I’m actually pretty excited to go to my dentist appointment next week. It’s a big step to fixing my teeth problems.

• We’ve been on a smoothie kick lately and I’ve found some great recipes. Our favorite so far was a mango turmeric one. Oh so good!

• Today is our third outing of the week. We are not used to being out of the house. I’m exhausted.

• Found rhubarb at the store, which means I need to make a strawberry rhubarb dessert of some kind.

• Also, I need to make a batch of gazpacho tomorrow for weekend lunches.

• Totally forgot we have a virtual wine tasting tonight. I can’t wait to open those bottles! From our favorite winery, Gundlach Bundschu, of course!

• Need to do some car care next week (key fobs, gas, oil change). Not my favorite thing to do.

• Movie month has taken some interesting turns. I’ve really been loving our weird selections. The other night we watched The Guest House starring Pauly Shore and it was delightful.

• All soft foods for me for this month before I finally get my dental work done in April.

• Historical romances are my sweet spot right now.

• Not having a dryer is really not great. I hate having to hung the clothes everywhere.

• Temps have been hovering around 0 degrees. I’m definitely feeling the cold this week.

• Started a new giant project last night and I’m super excited about it. Hush hush for now, but I’ll share soon!

• The kids want to make Saturday morning crafting session and regular thing. Ooof! I may have to beg off a few Saturdays, but I think I can make this happen more regularly.

• Trying to hold myself back from blowing through the rest of the Scythe series by Neal Shusterman. Loved the first one!

• Dreaming of the day when I can meet my book club at a restaurant or coffeehouse. Maybe this summer…

• Great start to 2021’s reading! Here’s hoping that I can keep it up.

• So sad that we’re almost finished with Schitt’s Creek. it’s been such a good series.

• We’ve had over a foot of snow this week. I’m not loving shoveling our large driveway, but at least we don’t have to go anywhere this week.

• Need to make a few deserts this coming week to catch up.

• I have officially DNFed my first book in a very very long time. I suspected something was going to happen, read some GR reviews, and decided that I didn’t want to read that. DNF

• Thankfully, I read a few good short contemporary romances to help get me back on track.

• Arthur has made an entire “winter camp” in the living room complete with ice fishing area and igloo.

• We’re very addicted to S1 of Lupin right now. Unfortunately, there’s a limited list of things I can do while reading subtitles.

• Thinking I need new yoga pants…

• I’m really into all the winter themed picture books we’ve been reading lately.

• Ugh! Victoria really needs to go on The Bachelor. She is beyond unbelievable.

• I’ve blown past my reading challenge number. Quarantining has done wonders for my reading in some ways.

• I did three advent activities yesterday (paper snowflakes, gingerbread cookies, Christmas cards). I’m doing something easy today.

• Excited to make Arthur watch a version of The Nutcracker ballet tomorrow night.

• Need to work on my plan and grocery lists for Christmas week and the week after.

• Resisting the urge to load up my library holds. I really need to read the books I own.

• Heading to see Santa today (following all the precautions) and hoping to get a good picture of the boys.

• I miss having book club in person (hate the over-talking and weird ambient noise on Zoom), but clearly we will be doing this for another 6 months probably.

• My kitchen attempts have not gone well this past week. Making Italian Beef Sandwiches tonight. I know these work so fingers crossed.

• Is is strange that I want to read horror this December?

• I missed a few weird hairs when cutting the boys’ hair. Guess I need to pull out the scissors.

• I picked up almost 90 books from the library this week… This puts our checked-out total at around 270. Wow!

• I’m. so rooting for Brendan on The Bachelorette! He’s bringing me the dork energy and I’m so into it!

• I dumped a book this week and picked up Lovecraft Country. A much better choice!

• I shattered a Ball jar this week and it was terrible. I hate losing my precious babies.

• Trying to work from home, do homeschooling, and all the usual house stuff (cooking, cleaning, child care)… I don’t have enough hours in a day. This sucks.

• Driving 630 miles in one long shot is a lot to handle… I do not love the drive at all, but driving straight through seemed the best option given current times.

• I now have a pair of nice skinny black pants. Not an addition I was looking for, but at least they were fairly cheap and are comfortable.

• I miss my own bed. It’s just so incredibly comfy.

• Redoing the library holds takes time…

• Two mediocre books in a row has me in a blergh mood. Here’s so hoping the next one is better.

• We’re finishing our first math text tomorrow… next week I have to organize some math projects as an in-between.

• Iced water is so incredibly good. I can’t get enough lately.

• Hoping the library processes my returns today. Seriously, I have so many that were turned in but haven’t been processed yet. My numbers are way too high right now… seriously process my books already.

• Yesterday’s snack lunch was a great idea. Need to do it again today and maybe tomorrow.
